Looks like I will wait a while. There are several unlocked overseas phones on eBay going for slightly over $850 at auction end.

I wonder if an unlocked phone would work with any carrier or just Verizon?

Pardon me for being so lame, but do the Windows phones use different apps than the Windows Mobile? Are they backwards compatable? I was all set to get a Windows phone to replace my HTC Wiz, until I saw the new forums here.

Completely different operating system, I dont think any of the WP apps will be compatible with WM.

It looks like they are if You change graphic interface.
But maybe, some day, with some "hacking", custom OS, os something, it will be possible to use original programs.

I am sorry to hear that I will not be able to use all my apps (games) on the new phone. I think that I will pass. The wife has a BB Torch that is loaded with all the features. Maybe we will get a matching set!
