Hello there,
I would like to know if there is someone who switched from Android to WP7, and more important, what was your intention doing so. My first smartphone this generation (I had an HTC Touch Pro2 before) was an Samsung Omnia 7, and I was very impressed by it, by the hardware itself, but moreover by Windows Phone 7 as OS. I like the way the GUI is build and how stable and technicaly mature it feels, also the great IE9 experience, by far the best mobile browser compared to the competitors.
I also knew even before I bought that phone, that there are a lot more apps for Android and iOS, but it wasn't that important for me, at least until I discovered some small, but relevant detail for me: because of the restrictions given by Microsoft on the WP7, the software installed on the phone can't use the earpiece as audio output device, which means that VOIP software can only be used paired with the headset. A fact that was realy disturbing for me, since I am using VOIP software a lot.
That lead to the point where I sold my Omnia 7 and bought an Android device (LG Optimus 2X), which is a great phone also, but after WP7 Android feels like stone age, and now I'm not sure if I should go back to WP7.
So my question to you, if you switched from Android to WP7: Why did you do that, are you satisfied, what are your plans for the future? Staying with WP7 or switching to something else again? Any comments are welcome :)

Best Regards,
tpaxx

Why I switched?

Wanted to try something new. I was more or less impressed by WP7. It's clean and sleek, not to mention fast at all times without signs of visible lag(lag was obvious in Android, even on dual-core devices)

I have to admit, IE9 is a great browser, though the lack of flash support really disappoints.

Most likely for now, I'll stay with my current WP7 phone, not upgrading to a new WP7 anytime soon. WP7 doesn't really need fast processors, neither does it need an extra-core to power it. Plus, it sure draws lots of attention when people go, Hey! What's that phone?

But in the future, if basic things such as music equalisers aren't implemented in WP7, I might switch to an Android Beats Device.

I came over to Windows not because of seeing it in action. I just saw how sexy the DVP was and had to buy it. I have no regrets, I've had a Nokia N900, a motorola cliq and a blackberry curve, the N900 was my favorite, I miss the flash browser and active multitasking but windows works so smooth, and the intergration with my callender and contacts I find that amazing, first time my life I never have to touch my calender. I would go to android if it ever gets more hmmmm u know what I don't think I would go back there because plenty people have it and I honestly dislike being like everyone else, oh crap I had an iPhone as well, I always forget I had that phone, probably cuz it was the worst phone I ever owned, I hated that phone. Nothing about it I liked. It was 3G btw, yes I had lots of games but it sucked major gonads! anyway. I will stick to WP7, it's smooth, different, fast, and beautiful and once I get to continue hacking it, I'm sold. Still a also a fan of meego

When Android first made it to the major carriers I was one of the first adopters picking up an HTC Magic. I absolutely loved it at the time. A year into my contract and several OS updates later I started not liking the experience as much thinking that my hardware wasn't up to par interms of running the new apps, so I upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S at the time. At that time is when android became a fragmented OS (apps dont run the same on diff devices). I wanted to get a new device becuase the 1st Galaxy S phones (wether vibrant, focus or whtvr) were all plagued by hardware/software errors and mine was included (Broken GPS, random power offs) regardless of the ROM I had.

I walked into Bestbuy planning to pick up a new android phone..at the time I can't remember which one, but I know it was an HTC model. While I was waiting for the rep to check stock I noticed the HTC surround, Focus & LG WP7 phone on display so decided to give them a try. From the first time I swiped to unlock the screen I was hooked. I was so amased how fluid and smooth the OS experience was and all 3 phones had the exact same feel to them. In contrast I had played around with several android phones and depending on the hardware, the experience felt diff. I went home that day and watched a couple of hours of youtube reviews on WP7 and picked up a Focus the next day.

Granted the app store is not as large, but in the 1st year MS has done a fantastic job with the marketplace and the progress hasn't stopped yet. A year from now, I can really see WP7 being a contender for 2nd place in the Mobile OS wars.

That's what I hope so much, I am still being so impressed by that amazin OS, if only just the appstore would get bigger. Yea, also that lag on my LG Optimus 2X, which is relatively fast is really annoying.

At the time, that is what I didn't understand. How could a phone with much beefier specs than my WP7 still be laggy and twitchy!?

I also started to hate that some apps ran better on my friends phones and vice versa depening on the phone I had. It made me feel like in order to enjoy the new apps, I had to keep buying a new more spec'd out android phone every year.

1 thing I admired about iOS/Iphone was regardless of what you used (3gs/4/4s) the apps all performed the same and I am glad WP7 is taking the same approach.

Looking to the future, with Windows Phone 8/Win 8 and the new xbox dashboard..things look pretty exciting for MS.
