If it does not belong anywhere else but is about Windows, post it here.

Hello Guys,

I just got my first windows phone (lumia 925) after using Android and IOS for years. I am having a really hard time with this windows phone.

First of all, how do i access my files? I don't see any file manager. Is there an unofficial one?

Next, how do i install new apps that are not from the store? Do i need to unlock WP8? If so, how?

I can't find a single decent game in the store. Is there any good games that i can install?

How do i play 720p .mkv files in my windows phone? The video app wont show these files.

Please let me know. Thanks.

To answer your question in order:

1. Yes there are a few unofficial ones, however, a developer unlocked device is required.

Here are a some: TouchXperience and WP7 Root Tools

2. Yes you need to unlock WP8. To do that, you will need to have a valid developer account with Microsoft Windows Phone Developer Center. https://dev.windowsphone.com/en-us The website will guide you for the rest of the way.

Other than that, there isn't any other way to unlock WP8 devices as far as I know.

3. You might want to take a look at these 2 threads: viewtopic.php?f=1113&t=464656 and viewtopic.php?f=1113&t=483114

4. I don't think there is any way to play mkv files unless you convert them before transferring them to your phone.

Do pardon me if my answers are a little inaccurate. I do not have a WP 8 device so I don't have much knowledge in this field.

No file manager (is one in market but dont remember how is name because not use it)...
you can use File Explorer from PC when connect phone via USB but only rudimentary copy files between...

for sync files you can use WP app for desktop
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/How-to/wp8/start/syncing-and-moving

also check How to advises (you can change language if english not yours http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/markets)
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/how-to/wp8

for installing other apps, need unlocked phone but only way is developer unlock (pay 25$ to Microsoft for developer licence or free with student account) but number of apps is limited (how many you can install to phone)

Recommend to install this apps:
SysApp Pusher - to check updates for Nokia system and apps
Store Deals - to check discounts and promotional free periods of apps and games

good games have developers Random Salad (just in Market search enter Random Salad and you find all games from this developer) and AE Mobile
Check also My Nokia app to see recommendation for apps...
also dont forget: available of apps and games can depend to your phone region settings

for video files, you must convert it to WMV, AVI or MP4
