you see a door opposite and along a wall a kitchen worktop with a single
gas burner set into it.
On the worktop is a collection of items.
There is:

a 100gm paper bag of flour
a small tube of instant glue (super glue)
a 250ml plastic carton of milk
a 20 ml glass bottle of ink(black)
a plastic teaspoon level full with salt
1 chicken egg
a 15 cm long brass test tube with an outside diameter of 2 cm & an inside diameter of 1 cm
a glass frying pan
a thin leather bookmark 15cm long and 3cm wide
a wooden kitchen spoon 25 cm long with an oval spoon part 5 cm wide & 7 cm long with the handle being 18 cm long & 8 mm in diameter
a swiss champ victorinox penknife
a 10cm by 5cm piece of blotting paper
a normal linen handkerchief(white)
a 30cm length of cotton string
a Wooden and Copper Hand-held mani Wheel (http://www.hinkyimport.com/pw023.html)
a 50gm block of lard/cooking fat
a 1 litre plastic bowl
a banana

the voice says to turn the gas on speak the words "GAS ON"

With the items provided light the gas and cook a meal then you will pass onto the next room.
The gas will automatically turn on in 1 hour if you have not worked it out by then you will either die from the gas or the explosion if you leave it to late to light it.

Give an explanation of how you lit the gas & what meal you cooked.

I'd put the cotton string into the test tube an add the super glue to it. this will create spontanious combustion. Now I can light the gas and make PANCAKES!

Just what kind of superglue do they sell in you part of the world? it must consist of 99% Nitric & sulphuric acid! even then what you would get would be an explosive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrocellulose)
Yes I am aware that cyanoacrylate will cause an exothermic reaction with cotton if enough is used which is why I specified a small tube of glue.
It would also stand a chance of killing you with the cyanide gas

Doing it your way would result in an explosion (maybe) not a fire to light the gas
And before anyone else asks The egg is fresh so no Hydrogen sulfide

Sorry the gas is not lit using any chemical reaction from the super glue

I'd rub the wooden handle of the prayer wheel against the handle of the wooden spoon til it lit a fire on the handkerchief and cotton string. Say "GAS ON" and use my fire to light it. Then I'd mix up some pancake batter, add the banana, and make banana pancakes.

Sorry Star84 but the Prayer wheel was put there in case you needed to meditate on the correct solution. But on the bright side the banana pancakes will be delicious when you get to cook them.

Hint: The method of creating flame was believed to have been used by the indigineous peoples of south east asian archipelago for hundreds if not thousands of years. A patent was taken out on the method in the early 1800s.

Build a fire piston! Using the brass test tube as tube, the wooden spoon as piston, the leather, linen or cotton (??) as packing, lard for lubrication, a small piece of cotton as tinder and the penknife to hollow out the piston. Use the fire piston. Shout "Gas on". Light the gas. Make banana pancakes!

Yes quite correct you make & use a fire piston to light the gas & cook the Banana Pancakes.
