Hi to all of you,

As in the title noted, i have a problem with a newly bought mainboard. I have installed Windows XP successfully and it also starts without any problem. But here it comes: After a while, the well known desktop surface of Windows XP disappears and the whole screen is filled with a color. Strangely, this color is not always the same. Sometimes the color is Green, blue, pink, white, gray, etc... And this also does not happen always after the same time elapsed. Sometimes i can use the computer for a few minutes to some hours. The colorscreen happens after eg. i try to plug in a USB stick, Open the DVD-drive, or when i want to open a folder via double-click, etc... . But it does not happens always when i perform those tasks...

I use the following system:
Mainboard: Asus P5E-V HDMI
Grafik: On-board
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
Memory: 2X 1GB DDR2 667 Unbuffered, PC2-5300 from Silicon Power (Serial Number: SP001GBLRU667S02)
HD: 500GB of Samsung
Monitor: SyncMaster 225BW of Samsung
Power: Thermaltake W0106 (700W)

I installed Windows XP without any included drives from Asus and once with all the drives included (via n-lite), but the same result.

I also tried to change the timing control of the Memory from automatic to 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-15 in the bios, but this also did not the job (to be honest, i have not much as not any experience with changing the timing control. But the only idea on the internet about trying to solve this issue was to play with the timing control settings).

Also an ood thing is, that it fails to install Windows 7. It fails at the last step, when it finalizes the installation. The same thing happens with the display going to a color.

Right now, I came to an end with my (limited) knowledge about finding a solution to this problem. So if you have any idea what the cause might be and how i can resolve this, i would be very very thankful (in addition, i will give all my WRZ to the one helping me out successfully).

Thanks in advance for you help and hopefully i can soon write an answer with a working station...

cheers folumi

ps.: ah yeah, i run memtest86 also several times, but everything seems ok...

What happens is you get a Windows blue screen of death, but your graphic card or monitor isn't able to display the BSOD properly.

Go there http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html and download "NirSoft BlueScreenView" (Freeware). Open the BSOD memory dump file with it, in most cases it will name the culprit driver.

Another try should be updating BIOS and choosing the "save default" preset in BIOS after updating for testing purposes. See if your machine runs (slower but) stable stable then.

Thanks a lot for you reply HsqcRQF5, i will definitely try this out tonight and post the results...

Update:

Sorry for my late respond. If anybody is interested, I finally solved my problem half way. When I try to open the BSOD log file with NirSoft BlueScreenView, nothing indicated anything wrong, in fact most of the times there was no BSOD log at all. What i tried next was to play around with the overclocking settings in the Bios, increasing the clock slightly and also increasing the voltage for the RAM. This did the trick in the end, but only half way. Instead of having the problem described in the first post ever hour or so, it happens one or twice a month with which i can live with for at least now.
