For some reason I have yet to figure out, my books in iBooks keep disappearing. If I add 1 book a few of the ones already on there disappear. I've tried restarting the iPad and even doing a sync with my desktop and still it happens. Anybody else have any trouble? I love my iPad but it's starting to become more trouble than it's worth. I'm so frustrated with this thing that I want throw it.

I had this problem a couple of days ago. Ebooks that disappeared from my library when I added them a couple hours prior. Mine were downloaded, not purchased, that might have had something to do with it, yet that's the first time that ever happened. It only happened once for me and after I re-added them the second time everything was good I think it was just a minor glitch for me. Mine was on iPad as well as my iPhone and I also synced them. Are you still having that problem? Were the books downloaded or purchased? If purchased, make sure your books have been updated if applicable. If downloaded, it might just be a glitch or if your iBooks app isn't up to date that could be it as well. Other than that I'm not sure what else to try.

IBooks is designed only to hold books purchased on iTunes. Search for a workaround and once found don't update Ibooks.

Yes jessthemess it still happens and they're downloaded books. It deletes several books everytime I add one however I have a huge library and several books shelves. It took a while before I noticed the problem in the first place but once I did I kept watch, It still happened though, I even created more shelves because I figured there were too many on one shelf and it's still the same. I've been forced to use the Nook app in the meantime, but I want my ibooks working again. It's the only app I've come across that lets you makes different shelves and lets you organize the books anyway you want. Plus I love the actual bookshelf look, or shall I say the old look, the ne one is nice too but I like the old one better. And now I'm rambling lol.
Thanks for reading.

It can't be true because their bookstore holds so little of a selection in the first place. Then there's the fact that several authors sell their own books independently from their own website and webstore. Plus publishers do the same thing for all of their authors' works. They are major sellers just as much as Amazon is. (Barnes and Noble is a big seller but no longer major thanks to amazon. Their store is also lacking in selection just like ibooks). This is all why kindle has two separate shelves, the cloud and device, for their users. It's supposed to be why nook and ibooks have the option to add on books features. Heck even Google Play Books has an uploads section on devices that take them. It just doesn't make sense to only hold book from their store. What's a workaround?

Hi Cjones, I have over 100 books in my iBooks app that are not purchased but downloaded from mobilism as well as a low key mobile website that easily saves books in the iBooks app for me and I have only had one experience (as in my above post) where something went wrong but was quickly resolved. I have over 100 purchased books through iBooks with 6 different shelves plus the shelf where it displays all of your books. When you say "old bookshelf" I'm assuming that means you still have the the classic iBooks with the actual wooden bookshelf background correct? I'll admit I liked that theme much better than the new one it was as authentic as you could get to the real thing, on a phone that is. Anyway, I'm not positive but I believe the problem is most likely because your iBooks app is not up to date and it's not properly handling all the new storage being added. The updated app from my experience has no problem managing hundreds of books whether they're all together on one shelf or split up into several. I can't say the same about an older version. I've had incidents where I don't update an app and it doesn't work the way it's supposed to, glitches, or completely crashes on startup because it's not compatible with the iOS software. From what you've told me, that's really the only thing I can think of that would be causing your books to keep disappearing. Either that or your storage on your iPad or iPhone is pretty much full and it's doing some sort of glitch and manually deleting books at random or larger books to make room for the new one you're adding. I don't really see that second one happening but you never know. If you don't want to update the app, maybe backup your iPad or iPhone. Sync and save your books to your iTunes on desktop then delete the app, reinstall that "exact version" from your iTunes on the desktop using the apps tab, then add all your books back and try adding a new one to see if the same thing happens. Be very careful if doing this though, be sure you know what you're doing, it can get confusing and time consuming to get everything back if you don't do it properly especially if you don't have a backup. I speak from experience long ago with my first iPhone. Good times, and I've come do far. Whatever you decide, good luck, and I hope your problem gets fixed. Feel free to pm me if you have any more questions.

Thank you for replying. My iBooks is fully updated along with my software well it's updated to the one that came in this morning which I will do after my radio show goes off lol. I actually didn't know that there was a way to keep the bookshelf style. Please tell me how do you do that? Also what is the "lowkey mobile website" you use? I have Dropbox, Microsoft Onedrive, and Icloud. I spend the extra $3.99 a month and purchased the extra storage on icloud. I have 188 out 200GB left in my icloud. I actually use it just for the book and a small amount of games and I put all of my books on it. I also have all of my books on iTunes. I've never actually purchased books from iBooks but I did get their free books which is now irrelevant because I now have those downloaded too. My number on books is actually to high to count but it is thousands of them. Not all of them are on iBooks but that really doesn't matter because I bought a 64GB iPad and you can put more books than songs it because the memory it use is so little no matter how big the book is but as I said I don't have all of them on there. I've also ran a virus scan on all of them and they are in the clear. Everything checks through and this doesn't make sense. I honestly don't know what else to do. Thank you for reading.

Peace, Love, Blessings, & Happy Reading

Huh...so your app is up to date then. I was thinking you had a very old version of it. My apologies. As for the bookshelf style, I really wish they'd bring it back. I liked it a lot and was disappointed when it was removed. How I kept it? That was actually a long time ago not recently. At the time I had an iPod and the 3G iPhone, when I updated my iPhone I saw that the bookshelf look was replaced by the new background and wondering where the heck it went so I looked It up to see if it was just me and that's when I saw that it wasn't being brought back in the updated version. I deleted the app then reinstalled the old version of iBooks from iTunes since I didn't send the new version to iTunes yet and it worked so I just never updated the app on my iPod as well...until it started doing all the glitching, random crashing, and I just decided it wasn't worth the trouble so I sucked it up and updated. I still miss my bookshelf.

I have Dropbox and iCloud as well although I don't use either that much. Dropbox I use just in case an ebook I want on mobilism or other websites with free books are not compatible or preferable with iBooks such as a pdf, mobi, or lit format. I can save the file in Dropbox then use a conversion website to open the file from Dropbox to convert those formats to ePub so I can read it in iBooks with the scrolling feature.

What I actually meant about the low key website since I see the way I worded it was a bit off, sorry about that, was an alternative to mobilism for downloading books. Sorry if I confused you. It's pretty much a file sharing site but is so much easier because there aren't a bunch of ads and fake links on it. You just do a search, click the book, and it will have the link that says "open in iBooks" or "open with" and you can choose kindle or whatever other reader you have and you're good to go. It's not available on a desktop you can access the website but you can't actually download the books themselves, you can only do that on the mobile websites which iPhone and iPad support nicely. If i can't find the book I need there, that's when I come to mobilism as backup. Between these two sites I've found very book on my tbr list with the exception of one because it's only in paperback. If you're still interested in that website I can send it to you in a pm. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it here because there's so many rules on this website to remember. Just let me know, I also don't want to broadcast it so it doesn't get taken down again lol. I'm just a little selfish hahaha.

You have a ton of books!!! I envy you, but at the same time I'm a picky reader otherwise I'd probably have almost as much as you do. I'm so glad that books don't take up that much space either. It helps in the long run, I keep my music on my iPhone since I have more space on there that way I can use my iPad for apps, games, and my books go on both no matter what. I didn't know you could scan an ebook for viruses. Interesting, what program do you use? Sorry I couldn't help more I'd be pulling hair out if I were you. Hope you find a solution.
