I have no plans to go - Phantom Menace pretty much killed the Star Wars franchise for me.
I can say my sister went and enjoyed it....and my nephew went and hated it. Now, he's a hardcore fan and (without spoilers) he said much of it was that he disliked what it did to the canon timeline. My sister just went as a casual fan and enjoyed the movie based on its own merits, as opposed to incomparison to the rest of the movies/books/shows, etc.
I can't say any more than that without getting into spoilers, which I really don't want to do.
Talk about anything here as long as it is not against the rules. Post count not affected.

Don't listen to any of the hate. It's the best Star Wars film since The Empire Strikes Back.

I read all the books and am still bummed about the de-canonization but..... other than abrahms standard lack of how any science/scale works... not that starwars was anywhere near hard science... i went in with reservations and came out having had a good time, the only caveat I have is not to watch the 3D

My spoiler-free take is that it is a little too much like an earlier Star Wars movie .
Nevertheless , it's overall quite good . Fresh faces , talent , jokes , droids , different style of execution . . . Definitely worth a watch and I'm sure the following movies will be more original . Perhaps they just wanted to bring everything back full circle , get everything to the basics in the first movie.

I read the book a week ago and was not impressed with it. Let's
just say JJ Abrams did a hella lot better with the movie than Alan
Dean Foster did with his book. We watched it today, the movie is
very well done.
Yes, I waited in line for hours in '77 as a 12 year old to see
Star Wars. That was epic. This movie puts the genre back on
track with EP4-6.
