Well that small difference is neither a device used to open a lock or door
nor a piece of information that controls the operation of a cryptography algorithm, nor a set of musical notes. but there is a difference between the belts of the 2 companies which is nothing to do with the materials used (identical) or the machines used to produce them (identical apart from one small setting).

I genuinely did not know that , another piece of knowledge of the obscure to file away in the dark recesses of one of my brains only to surface in anothe puzzle

they use diferent clips,or whatever it is called the piece who locks the belt into its place
