Instead of making fun of me, please answer this one:

Is there a difference in direction of one (or more) of the components the belts are made of?

Comparing the 2 belts there is a difference in direction of all of the components in the longer lasting belt

Since belts would have metal through them, does the metal get placed closer to the inside of one belt and closer to the outside of the other belt due to the different setting in the machine?

Sorry Phonehog the belts are identical in composition & laminate structure but congratulations on the other puzzle.

Aah.... wait! Are the machines that produce the belts started at a different moon phase?

(A wild guess, but one never know what a difference it could make... Look at the plants ;) )

one belt is used like a tire (which can be reversed), while one just goes one way?

I read that!

Tell me, you said the machines using the belts could be 'modified' to suit the modification done to the longer lasting belt. If the machine is not modified, does that still make the belt longer lasting? And is that 'modification' also done by a switch?

No

Is it a physical 'modification', and does that 'modification' only concern the parts of the machine that are in contact with the belt?
