Comparing the 2 belts there is a difference in direction of all of the components in the longer lasting belt

Since belts would have metal through them, does the metal get placed closer to the inside of one belt and closer to the outside of the other belt due to the different setting in the machine?

Tell me, you said the machines using the belts could be 'modified' to suit the modification done to the longer lasting belt. If the machine is not modified, does that still make the belt longer lasting? And is that 'modification' also done by a switch?
