I've been for many years involved in different forums (when I find the good ones at least). As you all know Mobilism is one of the greats, especially with their ebook section which is now been restructured. YAY!

But this past year I've seen many forums closing that I belong too, and recently Quicksilver Forum has closed!!!! (<---- very shocked  ).

I'm wondering if anybody has noticed.....or am I just being paranoid????

Hi, just found this forum and thread after looking up social media influenced forum closures.

Your comment is nicely juxtaposed with your signature - which is actually an answer to the OP's question. Some high traffic online websites are moving away from hosting their own forum communities, instead investing in their Facebook page. If moderation cost is in question, Facebook is often chosen over forums. This is not the case of course in many forums which are the core business, or well established forums such as those dedicated to a particular subject.

Where the forum is more a feedback zone for something else, such as a TV channel, it can be seen as an expense and annoyance. Ive seen it happen recently, and I think it's disappointing that Facebook and external social media services can replace local forum communities that were close to the brand. It's actually not so much users driving the move either, but brand/product owners gravitating (leeching) towards the existing activity on FB and spending time feeding it with prompts and getting addicted to like stats.

Anyway, not sure I can jump into this forum. It looks good, but no Nokia N9 topics it seems! I had iPhone, then Android - both good. Now I have Nokia N9 which people say is doomed. I say it's the best phone I've had. Good to own the last thing Nokia did before they teamed up with Microsoft. It's an instant classic with surprising features and highly intuitive interface and easy multi-tasking. Not many games, but I play games on big screens.
