I Know! Not at all tech related, but there is something so satisfying about growing something from a tiny seed!! Newbie container gardener here. I have started tomato, pepper & mint. And chocolate calla lily from last year's bulb. Any of you into gardening??

A little. 3 Things about tomato plants:
1 Lots of sun. If they're getting sun from one side only, turn them every couple of days to make them grow even.
2 Keep the soil moist, but don't over water.
3 Fertilize. The way it says on the box. Tomatoes are pigs.

If you want your tomatoes to ripen a bit faster, "stress" the plant a bit, hold up the water until you see a slight wilting. Pick 'em 3/4 ripe and let them finish on the counter, they get heavier as they ripen.

The same goes for peppers. They taste better green (to me)

Make sure that you don't let the mint go to seed, snip off the flower stems as soon as you see them.

hey zack, What do you know about thai chilli peppers? I mean about growing them in containers? I have a bunch of seedling, i have only a pair of pots slightly less than a gallon. Am also thinking 1 gallon milk jug. Would it work?

Yeah, just make sure to put some gravel at the bottom, peppers don't like it when their roots are sitting in water. Well drained for the peppers is key. One per pot, lots of sun, and fertilize! Like I said, they are pigs.

Do you know anything about calla lilies? they are going squishy at the bottom part of the leaves and are falling off the plant! :'( They were very pretty dark purple ones i got last year for my birrthday. I repotted them a week ago because the tiny pot had lots of shoots this spring . it was doing great in the tiny pot. :'(

I do some container gardening with my mom and she has recently discovered a method that is self watering. Instead of watering every day she only has to water about once a week. Even with our hot weather coming on! It's crazy.

Oklahoma weather is probably the most extreme weather in the US. Freeze your buns off in the winter and steam yourself in 95/100 weather in the summer.

I call it 95/100 weather because either the humidity or the temperature hit those numbers almost everyday from late May until late September.

Surprisingly, we had a very mild winter this year. Where I am anyways. I'm very Southern in the state, only about 10-15 miles from the Texas border. We only had a handful of hard freezes and I think it snowed once! That's all good and great but I'm scared for what summer is gonna look like. It's already been up to 114+ plus in the summer. So I don't wanna know how it'll be this year. Hopefully not too bad.

Its already sweltering hot!! I am watering most of my pots twice. By late evening the pots are so dry and plants are almost wilting. Its only going get hotter!

Haha. That's one of the reasons why my mom gets mad if I water during the day! I am told water at night or late evening so it doesn't dry up so quick.

I love gardening. But since I live in the driest state on the driest continent on the planet, even keeping my grass green is a mission, forget about planting nice gardens unless u got money to burn trying to keep them all alive. But I have had great success in container growing

That looks like a "Sweet 100" tomato plant.

And you need to put a tomato cage around it :D
