Mobile or just 'portable'?

There's a lot of portable PC's out there - laptops, notebooks, net-books - making you mobile after all, isn't it? Then why shouldn't PC software and games have a place on a forum like this? While still releasing some interesting Freeware for PC (see: PC - Freeware Essentials), let's do the same with Freeware games. Anyone owning or knowing some interesting PC freeware game(s) and willing to share may post here. Please use the usual template, and if possible keep your link(s) alive. Thanks.

Pathological v1.1.2
Requirements: Windows - All
Overview: Pathological is an enriched clone of the game "Logical" by Rainbow Arts. To solve a level, fill each wheel with four marbles of matching color. Various board elements such as teleporters, switches, filters, etc., make the game interesting and challenging. New levels can be created using your favorite text editor.

To add your own levels to the game, edit the file all-boards in the circuits directory. Be sure to read the documentation in the comments at the top of that file.

27 boards have been contributed so far! Download them now as a ZIP file or as a plain text file. Read the comments at the top of the file for an explanation of how to try them out. Many thanks to all contributors! And please keep the contributions coming!

If you would like to contribute your board designs for a future release of Pathological, please email them to [email protected]. Please don't submit boards that you haven't named. And please send only your own board designs - not the entire boards file.

I plan to assemble a panel of judges (my family and friends) to choose from among the submissions. The goal is to reach either 100 or 200 levels, depending on the number of submissions.

Overview: A cross-platform multiplayer modernisation of the classic DOS game Scorched Earth "The Mother Of All Games".


A simple turn-based artillery game and also a real-time strategy game in which players can counter each others' weapons with other creative accessories, shields and tactics. Test your skill in timing, aiming and judgement of distance, move around on the landscape, or outsmart your opponent economically.

Learning how to play is easy, just point the turret, adjust power and trajectory, select a weapon - and shoot!

Manage your inventory of weapons with the prize money you win during each round of combat. Learn the basic controls using the tutorial mode, or set up your own game by customising dozens of economy and environmental conditions to your liking, or simply play online immediately at one of the various public servers.

Juniper’s Knot v1.0
Requirements: Windows - All
Overview: A short kinetic novel crafted in a month by Dischan, Juniper’s Knot is a story told from dual perspectives: that of a demon and a boy. It begins on an autumn morning in a silent town.


Developed in the span of a month, Juniper's Knot isn't what most would expect from a visual novel. To begin with, there aren't any branching choices to tinker with in Dischan's latest release. Nonetheless, that doesn't stop Juniper's Knot from being an oddly lovely experience. Easily finished within the span of fifteen minutes or so, Juniper's Knot features an abundance of good-looking anime-inspired artwork and sketchy, watercolor backgrounds. The story of a chance encounter between a boy and a demon (one that doesn't end in wanton behavior, thank you very much), Juniper's Knot will probably be a pleasant way to a portion of your evening.

Overview: Simutrans is a freeware and open-source transportation simulation game that runs under Windows, Linux, BeOS on PC, and OS X on Intel based Macs.


In Simutrans you can build the transport networks you always dreamed of, with platforms, quays, level crossings, bridges, tunnels, signals and much more. Transport passengers between nearby cities with a commuter train or use a high speed train to earn big money by connecting cities further apart.

You can choose from a large amount of trains including steam, diesel and electric engines, along with multiple units - each with a different properties. Fleet of ships and ferries, buses, trams, trolley buses, trucks, and planes are at your daily disposal. More exotic ways of transport include monorails and maglevs.

Make your own bus system, transporting people throughout the city and lay out new bus routes to make cities grow. Watch your cities really come alive with trucks driving around carrying all kinds of goods. Supply the bookstore with new books and watch out, the Car Seller has almost run out of new cars! Be sure that the furniture factory has enough wood. Oops, the materials wholesaler has just sold his last planks, be quick to buy a new truck to strengthen out that route!

Connect all kinds of industries with each other, the Power Plant needs coal to run. The Refinery gets its supplies from either an Oil Field or an Oil Rig, and produces plastics which allow new cars required by the Car Seller to be built, and gasoline that is sold in gas stations to make those cars run. More of these industry chains are built in this incredible simulation.

Overview: Crimson Fields is a turn-based tactical war game. It can be played against a human opponent in hot-seat mode in front of the same machine, over a network, or via e-mail, or against the computer.

Your mission objectives range from defending strategically vital locations to simply destroying all enemy forces in the area. Overview: Oolite is a space sim game, inspired by Elite, powered by Objective-C and OpenGL, and designed as a small game that is easy for users to pick up, modify and expand upon. Almost every aspect of the game can be changed by using simple, free graphics packages and text editors.


Originally written for Mac OS X, and under continuous development for over five years, Oolite is available for Mac OS X (10.3.9 and higher) and PCs running Windows XP, Windows Vista/7 or Linux. It requires at least a 400 MHz processor, 256 MiB of memory, and a graphics card capable of accelerating OpenGL graphics. Tag: The Power of Paint

The creators of Tag describe it as "a first-person puzzle platformer which focuses on the players’ ability to modify their environment as they see fit, simply by painting it." They encourage players to enjoy "the endless supply of paint and all the power that comes with it" while traversing each level.

Key Game Mechanics

In this first-person shooter, players have one weapon: a large super-soaker loaded with a never-ending supply of paint. By traversing levels and solving puzzles, players gain access to additional paint colors. The player can then change the physics of the level as those colors are used to paint the surfaces of each level.



Green paint jumps the player high and far depending on initial speed
Red paint increases acceleration and top speed allowing the player to pull off a long jump
Blue paint allows the player to stick to and walk on any surface

Mightier v1.4

Overview: Mightier is an independent puzzle action game developed by Lucas Pope and Keiko Ishizaka. Play as the Engineer and the Actionaut to solve puzzles and collect items in each sector.


Fun puzzler Mightier's appeal isn't immediately apparent. You're an "Actionaut" collecting "Datagons" on an alien planet. To do that, you have to create platforms so you can reach them. Early levels are child's play, but don't let the cute graphics and twee music fool you. Your brain will soon be bubbling in its own juices. A killer feature for us; you can print out level plans and solve them on paper first

Overview: A freeware World War II German submarine simulator


Danger from the Deep (known as dangerdeep or DftD) is a free (as in free speech), Open Source World War II german submarine simulator.

Danger from the Deep and source code is available under the GPL license and most of the artwork/data is released under a Creative Commons license (Attribution/NonCommercial/Non-Derivative works).

DftD is currently being developed on Linux (i386 and AMD64) and Windows. There are binarys available for Linux (i386 and amd64), Windows (32bit) and there are some old packages for MacOSX.

Danger from the Deep is a program that makes use of SDL/OpenGL and thus should be portable to other operating systems or platforms.

Danger from the Deep is planned as tactical simulation and will be as realistic as our time and knowledge of physics allows. It's current state is ALPHA, but it is playable. If anyone want's to contribute in development, you're welcome, just email the dangerdeep-devel mailing list. Contributing binary packages for various Linux distributions would also be much appreciated.
