I'm interested in playing Homebrew games on my new Wii (until Nintendo releases their SDK which would probably cost me an arm and a leg anyways), and have wondered about Mod Chips to play Gamecube homebrew, or even Wii homebrew games. However I'm worried about a few things, like stealth. Some sources say Nintendo can detect mod chips and block your console from online play or some services, even if you've got stealth turned on. Can they? Does stealth actually work? What about upgradeability? I've heard great things about the open-source chips. Are they easy to install? Program? Purchase? Has the raids done anything to the market yet?

I have googled this information before, but couldn't come to a suitable conclusion, so I thought here would be a good place to ask..

Is the wiikey the one you need that gun thing and insert the chip into the wii? I'm waiting for something much easier like maybe a hacked wii channel.

I have mine with D2Ckey, which is the same maker of Wiikey, but for D2C DVD chips. Theorically, since the mods are done to the DVD drive and not to the motherboard, they "should" be undetectable. I have played some online games, and they have worked just fine.

Before doing any modding to your Wii, you should find out what chip do you have on yours, if you bought it recently, chances are that you have a d2C chip, hence, you'll need either a d2CKey, or the Argons, be aware though that these chips (specially the d2Ckey) require lots of tiny soldering, I tried it myself, and I couldn't do it, I had to pay someone to do it. at the end, He did a great job and I'm happy with all my games.

wiikey's are upgradeable.. but this all depends on the chip you have.. do you have a d2b? or a d2c?

you can find out by registering for the http://www.nintendo-scene.com forums.. great place for information.. as well as http://www.xbox-scene.com u can find modchip installers in those forums as well...

let me know how it goes... i'm looking to get a wiikey as well..

I didn't either, but I found a reliable modder in Texas, I shipped it and I got in a week, very reliable and good service, let me know if you want his info.

Wiikey all the way! Absolutely great chip - easy to use, 100% compatibility with backups, and the developers release updates (occasionally). It is tricky to install, if you're trying to do it yourself. Your first step should be to determine what motherboard you have, and then figure out how hard the install would be. Mine was one of the "re-build the legs" installs, and I am exceptionally glad that I had someone else do it for me. I tried for about 5 hours to do it myself and could do it. Luckily, I didn't damage the system while trying.

Just so everybody's clear, is not really about if Wiikey or D2Ckey is better than the other. Is pretty much what you can get depending on your DVD chip. If you have a D2C or newer DVD chip, Wiikey doesn't work there. First thing to do is find out what chip you have.

http://nintendo-scene.com/wiitracker just insert your LU serial number under the wii and it will give you information of what kind of chip you have.. from there you can mod your wii like mad crazy :D

I would like to have his info. How did you pay him? I'm obviously not just going to ship out the money with the wii and get it modde--what if he jacks it?

Believe me I was taking a shit when I was sending it, but after TONS of questions, he was always polite, helpful and very knowledgeable of the matter. I looked and looked for places where they might do the work locally, and after looking at all the feedback that he has and some other forums recommend him, I decided to send him ONLY the DVD drive since I tried it myself at the beginning (I figured if he cons me, at least I would have to get only a new drive), well, to make long story short, I got it back and worked perfect, the Turn around time was a week exactly. and he is always helpful. Check your private messages, I'm sending you the info.
