To all these religious people out there...,im still waiting for some sort of evidence that there is a GOD.
As we all know there is none anywhere in the world.

An interesting thread that I've only just noticed.

I am an atheist (as I voted on the poll) and I am always surprised when I see how many religious people there are!

The usual response by a religious person to the atheists "I think evolution created what we see today." is along the lines of "What are the chances of XXXX happening by random chance?" (eg: the Mona Lisa being produced by an ink spill).

This reply usually shows a complete lack of understanding of evolutionary theory and of probability itself!

To attempt to clarify, if I sat and tossed 1,000,000 coins and recorded the pattern of heads/tails that occurred the chances of that particular sequence would be very very low. However, it is 100% certain that the sequence did happen because I am now at the "end" of it. You cannot look back and say "Thats so unlikely it could not happen!" because it has already happened. We are at the end of a sequence of events (not random events I have to say, more a biased randomness), the result is the world we see now.

I hope that makes sense!

Evidently! ;-)

I only just noticed the thread and the last post was only a few days old.

And a few of the points were just asking for a response!

Well..
Yes, I do believe in God. I believe this, because of feelings, that are not just when I go to church. I have had my bad times, and my good times. I just keep believing. To those that don't believe, I just hope your right, and we see each other in the next life. *(Make this clear though, I don't believe in anything but Heaven and Hell.)

Never had an interest in posting on the site, but viewing this topic spiked my interest.

For any fencesitting atheist/moderate, I'd like to recommend the work of Sam Harris. just look on youtube or google video and from there you can start to make your way towards Richard Dawkins and Jordan Maxwell.

All three of these people have been very influential on my "religious" development and I can now proudly call myself an atheist.

Raised stricktly catholic, I know firsthand how difficult it is to rationalise yourself out of the restrictive framework of dogmatic fearmongering, but in the end, the truth shall set you free. The absolute truth thatis. the verifyable truth. Not the commonly accepted sectarian one(s).

You say God. I say Proof.

A bad man will do bad things, A good man will do good things. But it takes religion to get a good man to do bad things.

LOL

That's all what religions can do. Making fear and threaten.

Christianity would not last since 2000 years without hell. Make people fear. That method seems to work even today. Unbelievable because not one step of development.

Of course Christianity has a hell. The whole basis of most religions is that theres a god who actually does give a sh*t about what you do on this world. But if he doesn't care enough to punish you for your wrongdoings, than it would be hard to say he cares at all.

Ok. Here is another thing to consider:
( I am a Christian, but will be playing devils advocate.. hmm.. bad choice of wording, perhaps..)
Do you believe in dragons?
Previous to this decade, they were thought to be strictly a myth, until a discovery was made, that uncovered an actual dragon.
So, look at all of the different cultures, and they all have some form of dragon; look at all cultures, and they have some form of superior beings.
Is it just a co-incidence?

What discovery are you refering to? Where was an actual dragon discovered?

What point are you trying to make?

Your compare water with fire ! There is absolutely no sense in what you say.

Yes, humans are kinda religious but every culture has their own different god/godS. Before that carpenter christ appered who really thought who is god (and many ppl have thought that already ;) ) which was only 2000 years agao (earth is 4,5 Billions years old) poeple had other gods; e.g. a thundergod because people could explain the thunder..
But what dragon are you talkin' about ? Probably only you can see it, like your personal god..

I've always thought that the "dragon" myth was no more than a way to explain dinosaur remains. Fossils were not only recently discovered, people will have been finding them for as long as there have been people! And, as such, they required an explanation and people would have done their best to create something that fitted what they saw.

No, it is not just co-incidence, humans know they can do things (blow air from their mouth), and they see similar but more impressive things happen around them (hurricanes) to a human that has no real understanding of the physical world it makes sense that a "superior being" must be in control of the wind, it is too much for a human to be able to do. As science uncovered the processes of the weather, we can see that the wind is just a product of the atmosphere moving around (through causes such as heating up by the sun in one area and cooling down in another), this closes the idea that a superior being is in charge of the wind.

You, being a christian, are just clinging on to the last few scraps of the "inexplicable" things we see. As are the followers of any current day religion. The space for a superior being is becoming smaller & smaller, and believers are having to turn to different interpretation of their holy books to make their beliefs make sense to themselves. For example, originally, the Earth was created in 6 days, now some say "Well, obviously they weren't 24 hour days like we have, they were millions of years long!", so that their belief fits in with the evidence being found.

Yes, about there being a discovery with a dragon. One was found, and it was laying right next to a youth dragon. I saw it on the discovery channel.
About the other comments, I will respond, just don't have the time to this hour.
