Just got banned from dpgroup.org for downloading a rar file from one of their releases and uploading the file to a new host and providing that new link here. Has that happened to anyone else?

They want their members to let a few days go by before sharing on another forum any files they upload/download from their site. Suppose it doesn't matter which host you use, only that you obtained the file from DPG and then immediately shared it elsewhere.

(I rarely visit DPG anymore. They're very friendly and helpful. However, the site is focused almost exclusively on the one genre I don't read. Just wasn't my cup of tea.)

Got the message that I got banned for leaching books to mobilism. I could understand it if I used their links, but I didnt and I havnt seen any rules on their site against reuploading their content and using the new link.

you should have seen the forum last year. huge crackdown on users sharing books outside of their forum. :D bans left and right.

they have moderators and little minions who check Mobilism constantly, so I would be careful with sharing books from that site.

I don't use that site anymore, as most of the books on that site are from Mobilism...

I believe there is no such thing. Unless that site is the place where authors gather to share their books for free, of course. The supreme idiocy of the members of that site if they truly consider the books "theirs" is simply appalling.

if they bought the books, it's theirs.

You are right, if I buy a book, the copy is mine. To keep. But the moment I share my copy on the Internet, it ceases to be mine and becomes the Net's, and there is not a darn thing I can do about it. Once the genie is out of the bottle... etc. Or else the authors who don't want their books shared would have found a way to stop the sharing.

On second thought, maybe the dpgroup's admins should simply get together with the authors and see if they can reach an agreement on ownership, see who has more rights over the files.

exactly. considering the type of books posted on that site and the number of users who access it everyday, books are definitely going to be shared outside the forum. plus, they have a special section where bought books can go. however, looks like some users choose not to put them there. but instead post them where WAY MORE users can access it. like come on. seems like the staff and admin have more of a problem with sharing than their own users :)

I haven't used this site for awhile now. The mods that are online are always grumpy now. I saw a couple of mods, Magic and Kazziekat, yell at another mod, Aglea, in their shoutbox. I have found them rude and obnoxious. Magic is the worst for being mean. If I was on the receiving end of her rants I would cry. God forbid you do something wrong there.

You guys are right once a book is posted it's out there. It doesn't belong to anyone anymore. And they do get their books from here or another site mostly. It's so hypocritical.

Thanks for letting me rant. Sorry for bumping up an old thread but it felt good to say that.
