I sometimes catch myself having these weird random thoughts, even when I am in the middle of doing something that I find interesting (organizing my boogers by color and consistency) and I find myself contemplating what the hell was my brain doing while I was convinced that I was doing something else.

Take today for example. I was in the middle of putting together a work related matter when I started seriously considering that since crabs are able to regenerate lost limbs, are they immortal? I started taking mental notes on how I would go about tackling this problem if I was a scientist and had extensive knowledge of Biochemistry and genetics. I "came to" when I chuckled whilst thinking that the only crab that I'd like to get to know that well was the one in drawn garlic butter. Talk about day dreaming. Wait, isn't that something else entirely? Yeah, I think it is.

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one that these kind of thoughts occur to (proving my sanity) or if they happen to sneak up on any of you (proving that y'all are mostly sane/insane)

Any thoughts?

Happens to everybody...but you don't talk about it.
What about massacring people around you? Anybody think of that disturbingly frequently?

Just a few simple responses:

I had a work colleague who was fond of saying: "Thee and me are the only two sane people here and I'm not too sure about thee!"

I heard about a regular at a friend's favourite pub. apparently, he had spent time in a mental institution and, when an associated subject came up, he would demand: "Can you prove you're sane? I can. I've got a piece of paper from the hospital that proves it!"

I also like the theory that the two hemispheres of the brain are divided into rational and impulsive. Our behaviour is not, the theory runs, rational or logical. What actually happens is: the impulsive side of the brain does pretty much what it likes, whenever it likes and the 'rational' side of the brain runs along behind trying to rationalise the impulse as planned and deliberate. I like that theory and tend to believe that sanity is the degree to which every human being can accept and explain away their underlying and poorly diagnosed and, usually, poorly understood madness.

Finally, 'AdVictoriam, Les Barker once wrote: "some people are only alive because it's illegal to kill them!"
