Well here's another diver, not been out as far as your way (yet) but have dived a fair bit around Indonesia.

Mainly dive around the UK, and before you ask Instructor qualifications, PADI, SAA, mixed gas qualifications & have tried the lot from Hard Hat to closed circuit rebreather.

woah! you must have a thousand logged dive. ok sherlock, i have a question in my mind that i didnt even bother to look for an answer but since you're there i hope you can answer this. :D im just curious, when the rebreather is out of your mouth and put it back, how do you clear it? :?

Well dale the simple answer is there is a way of purging it ,easiest is to hold the mouthpiece so it free flows, remember that there are always 2 cylinders inside every rebreather, one oxygen and the other air or inert gas. You can normally take a feed off this second one for suit buoyancy, but can also use a separate cylinder.

All that happens with a rebreather is that you are exhaling through soda lime to scrub the breathing mix of co2, and the o2 content is replenished (depending on what partial pressure is best for whatever depth you are).

in theory the top of the range sets can give you a duration of 32 hours underwater (phibian)

not recommended unless you have a heated suit :D

Just enjoy yourself Dale, you have some wonderful waters out there. Rebreathers are very expensive to buy & run & have limited application for the normal diver who just wishes to enjoy the underwater world.
