I was a fan up till David Tennant left. Matt Smith just never did anything for me. I tried watching a few episodes when he started, I just could never warm up to him as the doctor though. I think I'll try and get back into it for the new guy!

I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of Doctor Peter Capaldi will be creating for all of us. My first Doctor was Tom Baker, and I never thought *anyone* could top him for me, but David Tennant did. I, too, was never crazy about Matt Smith (so *young*!), but I grew to like him enough. I was not sad to see him go, but look forward to seeing him in other roles. The 'look' of Capaldi's Doctor makes me think of Jon Pertwee. Maybe it's the hair.
Looking very much forward to August! (It is August, isn't it?)

I hate to pick up an old topic, but I just can't help it now that the new season has begun. After three episodes I'm still not sure what to think... Capaldi's Doctor feels hrmmm forced? Scattered? I can't quite put my finger on exactly what's bothering me about him, other than to say it feels "off". I can't help but be a little disappointed, though I still hope the next episode will change my mind.

I've been thinking about this - I think what seems 'off' may be the utter lack of whimsy. Not a criticism, just an observation. Of the modern era, Capaldi is much closer to Eccelston's protrayal - sort of dark, with humor, but no whimsy. With Tennant and Smith, I think we had a lot of whimsy along. What I mean by whimsy, is at any given moment either 10 or 11 might see, for example, a cooking pot and decide to wear it like a hat for whatever reason. I can't picture Capaldi doing that at all, but he HAS had a number of good one-liners. So, he has humor, but no whimsy. Does that make sense? :-/
