1) Yes kindles read pdf, but not recommended, as it's difficult to read most pdf's effectively. (This pertains not only to kindle, but most other e-ink ebook readers also.) Personally I gave up using pdf's on kindle.
2) You can download directly to your kindle from Amazon (assuming Amazon has some pdf files), or download to your pc and transfer by usb cable just like you would with an mp3 player. (often called side-loading).
Talk about anything here as long as it is not against the rules. Post count not affected.

Pdf's on e-book kindles take forever to load and to zoom in and out and actually see the text is cumbersome to say the lest.Yo are better of using either a computer or an Android or Ipad/Iphone to view them.

Pdf on the Kindle DX reads OK, but almost impossible to read on the new Paperwhite. It gives a low memory warning after a few pages and shuts down.
Amazon will convert PDF books for you to azw, but this is not usable for magazines.
I use ABBYY Finereader to convert pdf books to epub and then convert it in calbre to mobi/azw/azw3 or what is needed.
This gives an even better result than the convertion by Amazon. Calibre does not do well in converting from PDF

You get a special Kindle email address (check on Amazon, Kindle, settings) you can send the pdf file to yourself, personally I've had no problems with pdf files, I have a Kindle Fire hd (1st version)

I found an easier way to load Kindle books onto my Kindle: I used Dropbox (www.dropbox.com). I installed the application on my computer, and put the app on my Kindle. Once that was done, I simply moved the files I wanted on my Kindle to the Dropbox folder on my PC, which synced them to cloud storage. From there, it was quick and easy to access Dropbox on my Kindle and save the files to my device.
I tried to put pdf files on my Kindle, without much success. Calibre didn't convert them very well. I'd given up on the idea, but then I found an app called Aldiko. It's free, and it allows you to read epub and pdf files without having to convert them first (you have to import the titles to Aldiko, but that's relatively simple).
If you have any questions about anything I've posted, let me know. I'm willing to help you with any of it. It was a frustrating process for me to learn the tricks I used, so I'm happy to pass them along.

Garon,
Thank you for your advice.
I'm a Calibre user, and have experienced the same let down with PDF when I use
them. Other than that I love it.
Aldiko, tonight for ME their website was down. Is that true in other locations also?
Is it a APP that is like Calibre and must be installed on the desktop? Amazon still offers
it as a freeware.
I like you have been frustrated with the different formats. It's like the trash off of
freeEBOOKS.com, why do they have to put the trash message on every page of a
read?
Thank you for your advice, and I'll be watching this thread in the future.
