Image Hero for a day...

A hero (heroine in female), in Greek mythology and folklore, was originally a demigod, their cult being one of the most distinctive features of ancient Greek religion. Later, hero (male) and heroine (female) came to refer to characters who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and the will for self sacrifice – that is, heroism – for some greater good, originally of martial courage or excellence but extended to more general moral excellence.

Today, the title 'hero' is used for the individual, that stands out of the community, while still being part of it, but for some reason - usually linked to his talent or specific view - performs an 'act" that benefits this whole community.

For me, a hero is the user from which I noticed he did something that benefits PPCwarez. He/she may not be aware of it, while doing an everyday action that looks routine, but nevertheless is worth to mention. I notice. I make him or her my personal hero for a day...

These are my heroes, the reason is in the post below:

Image Hero for a day...

Dec 15: My first 'Hero for a day' is our Don Cammillo, the Godfather of PPCwarez. Years ago - April 2006 - tired and disappointed about existing warez sites, he decided to start his own PPCwarez. From the basic software, games and movies sections he expanded the site to what it has become today: a heaven for all mobile owners and users, an everyday meeting place and for some of us like a second home. Lifehacker, your everyday concern, your knowledge and clear views already made you immortal for most of us... For now you are my Hero for a day...

Dec 16: Although the English language is most commonly used, there's a lot of nationalities represented on this site. Understanding each other is important - communication is the clue to avoiding & solving most discussions - and translation has therefore become essential in our world, where distances are reduced to fractions of a second, due to neatly conceived digital highways. There's a lot of translation stuff released for our mobiles, but there's only one man who keeps this organized on this site: Bamsec1. Our PPCwarez language specialist joined the site in October 2006, became a VIP real soon and has taken since early December 2007 the lead creating the Language post on PPCwarez. ( Check it out, it's most impressive!) He's been updating the post since then on a daily base. It may seem easy to most of us, feel routine for him... it's impressive enough to me for making Bamsec1 my personal Hero for a day...

Dec 17: While Predators fight Aliens and Rambo crushes the Vietcom, Cyber terrorist like Eric Leech and unpredictable like Mr. Murphy - playing games on our site - need to be cured by people possessing specific knowledge that also are prepared to make use of their talent without receiving anything in return. Sdawson is such a man. He joined PPCwarez in November 2006 and rapidly proposed his services for script modifications and other technical aspects of the site. He continuously made possible additional features and site optimizations upgrades. Again one of those previously barely known members that became vital important for the site, and made it chief site technician. Sdawson, for all your work and devotion, your friendly mind and your everlasting spirit, I choose you today to be my Hero for a day...

Dec 18: Users and mods that joined PPCwarez recently may not be much aware of his presence, as he's for the moment concentrating on other platform programming and that way a little bit out of site/sight... Nevertheless, my hero for today joined in May 2007, and managed in a short time to put his "footprint" on PPCwarez. In a way that he will not only always find a door to this site to pay us a visit, but also he will find always someone to hold it open for him... Infernal is our most brilliant release Tester ever. You can find an amazing amount of excellent test reviews from his hand all over the site. It's a pleasure to read them and very useful information about the tested application or game. Infernal also developed the well-known and widely used - I also do! - Releaser Tool. Who knows one day we shall start more OS sections on PPCwarez. Until that time, Infernal, I make you today my own Hero for a day...

Dec 19/20: During weekends, my heroes enjoy a well deserved rest. Well, of course they are around, they are heroes after all!

Dec 21: My next hero is visiting many mobile sites, and has been on this board since exactly 1 year today - what a coincidence! But it's only since a few months that he became active in a way we noticed him, when he became a major ROM releaser. While being very helpful in a lot of sections, communicating in a positive way with other members and mods, he became a release tester last October. After posting some promising test reviews he concentrated on releasing new software and games, giving the android section an exploding boost when it was created. Also, his frequent participating to site's contests is very appreciated, and you can always find him on IRC for a chat or advice. Nice!. Sunjoyck's presence brings color to this site. Ow, speaking of 'color'... I wonder why his name is still not green. Maybe we are out of paint  ... Anyway, untill then, you, sunjoyk, are to me a Hero for a day...

Dec 22:Speaking of a hero. "Do you believe in God?" was a question posted in the topic "Religous Views" on our site, early 2008. I'm not going to answer that question here and now, but I DO believe my next hero also made a wonderful carreer, be it on this site, where his friendly behaviour combined with his knowledge resulted in the status he has become today. He was 32 when he joined PPCwarez early October 2006, and quikly managed to leave his print on nearly every section of the site. Funny jokes in our joker's corner, participating in many contests, (the poker the better), and - to explain my opening question - leading a discussion about 'The void creator'... In June this year he became a multisection mod and has since then been participating in - mostly on staff level - site discussion, and giving his own - very personal - view about promoting users to staff level or not. XVI, you are a green example of what a good forum moderator should be, and how to become one. Therefore, XVI, to me you are my Hero for a day...

Dec 23: I tend to talk too much. Must be a family habit. Anyway, let me tell you in a few words about the "other" site, PPCwarez2. It was created by some enthusiastic 'mobilers' in August 2008 when PPCwarez was down due to server problems. The site does focus on other platforms beside those we have on our site. My hero was one of those who build up that site from scratch and he is still the head administrator today. Beside that, Ather is a highly respected ROM Cooker on our site, who joined in May 2007. He's also one of the guys you'll always find in the kitchen at parties, err... on IRC exactly the moment you need him. Have a technical problem? Ask him. Can't find a program or crack? Ather does that in a minute, just like if he wrote it himself while you were asking... Amazing. Finally, to picture my hero completely, the Christmas action on site2 to gather money for people in need, makes him for ever the Bob Geldof of cyber-world. For all this, and also because you are my friend, I make you today, Ather, my Hero for a day...

Dec 24: Dear Kargent. It is said cats have nine lives. It happens people get burried alive. In nature the strongest survive. Or the smartest? (Darwine?). I have seldom seen such a warm and helpful person as you are. I never understood what it was about, but I do know you argued with some people on this site that made you upset and leave for some time. I heard you're back... you're welcome. The moment I write this there could be 897404 open hands to welcome you... if all users of this site were chimps... But no, we're only human - 448702 hands - and (of course) not perfect, but willing to forgive and try to live with each other the best we can. I'm glad you're back. You can still be of great value for this site. Your kindness, expertise on GPS matters and your designer qualities will be welcomed by a lot of users. Personally, I don't need a GPS to find my way to you. Whenever I smell the Paella, wherever I hear Spanish music, I know you are around. OMG, again I talk to much... Kargent, not only you are a VIP on this site, you are also now my Very Irreplaceable Personal Hero for a day...

Dec 25: Hihi... time for a new hero. You might think I am getting lazy, not choosing a hero for Chrtistmas day... Wrong! I am not. I have been reading. Fairy tales. Well, they are not all for children. Only, I think some should be re-written & updated to modern times. An example? I was reading about Snow White. So sweet... But, jeez! A "Prince on a white horse...". Seen a white horse lately? A prince on top? Personally I have seen none. (Secretly waiting for one, maybe...) ok. They should make that "a prince with a white mobile..." Ow, they make them white, don't they? And then, why not make that a "Persian prince with a white mobile"... And while we're at it, please let it be Prince Farshid... 'Sir' Farshid, we call him in the family. Well, you are kind of family, Sir Farshid. And a special friend. You see, the friends of my friends are my friends. Knowing some of my friends are not easy at friends, that makes those friends special, more like family... Aargh! There I go again... talking, talking, talking... Ok. Let me cut it short: Sir Farshid is another of those kind-hearted mods we have on our forum, from which I also think they lost the paint for, be it the red one. Of course he's there to make us follow the rules, which makes him sometimes act severe - but always correct! I forgive him the warning he once gave me - Image -, and also my little brother - Similar - who got banned a few months ago because he didn't check his PM... (I shall talk about my little brother later...). Ok. Time to conclude. Sir Farshid, I know it was your birthday a few days ago. I hope you celebrated that at home with the people that love you - must have been a hell of a party - (I should have been there!) but I didn't want to steal that event from them. For now, - and why not for the whole weekend - I reserve myself the right to pronounce you my personal Hero for a day...

Dec 26/27: Weekend again, my heroes have two days holidays... Err... Sir Farshid stays in charge to keep an eye on our site's Christmas tree... (Don't let the horse eat it!)... Merry Christmas!

Eventually, Sir Farshid gets dismissed from his surveillance job, because during the weekend, heroes have to meet each other. They gather on a secret place. This time the place is so secret that even Lifehacker, who organizes the meeting, doesn't know himself where it's going to happen. He sends a blank invitation to Bamsec1 - he can translate anything, even the un-written - who translates that to heroes 'secret language' - don't try to read it, folks!, it will burn your eyes! Sir Farshid spreads the messages trough his white mobile, while Sdawson makes sure the message doesn't get hacked by David Leech. Surprisingly they meet in a church (!). While Kargent and Ather argue about who's facebook page they shall put pictures of the meeting on, Sunjoyk spams XVI's inbox with messages suspecting him having manipulated LH about the meeting location, especially after catching XVI having religious discussions with the churches' owner, Father Murphy. Sdawson keeps complaining whole day he can't set up a wireless connection as the signal gets distorted by copper organ pipes... while Farshid's horse is eating the straw from the Christmas Crib (I warned you, Sir!)...In the end, while everyone gets high from the incense, Infernal - the only one who stays sober two days, - finds out how comes they screwed up the location: Bamsec1 made an error translating "secret place" to "sacred place"... My heroes! I love them!

Dec 28: Now, before you people are starting to think I rave about the past - fairy tales, Princes on white horses... - I do not. True, Christmas time and end-of-the-year celebrations make us generally look back to what has been. For a strange reason I can only remember the nice things when I look back, hoping the future will bring more moments of joy and happiness, and - who knows - even better... Now, speaking about 2009, according to Google, "Hyves" has been the word that was most used or searched for on the net. I think G & a could make another nice contest about 'most used words on PPCwarez' (haha!), but... that's not what I want to talk about. Well, in a certain way it is. I want to talk about the administrator that has been most on people's lips this year. Not because he did something wrong (not at all!), nor because he performed something that brought PPCwarez to the guiness book of records... Nope. (Not yet?). On the contrary: he managed to be most spoken about without being around. His name is Cencio. I call him dearest Cencio. You didn't met him? Mmm... Never someone could have thought this guy - who joined the site only a few months after it was created - would become like a mascot of the site, and sure we didn't expect him to leave such a gap after he disappeared. Yes, we didn't see him since a while... One day he was gone. Rumours go he had an accident with his motorcycle, some messages speak about moving with his company to a connection-unfriendly location... Also, we won't be surprised he's been hijacked by foreign creatures as a sample of how beautiful humans can be... We don't know. But we DO know that such a nice and friendly fellow still has a place amongst us. And I strongly wish that the faith he will be back one day would inspire us to keep the PPCwarez spirit alive like in the old days... Should make him feel at home the day he comes back... Until that time, dearest Cencio, allow me to make you my terribly missed Hero for a day...

Dec 29: In the beginning, there was nothing..." Well, there were some electronic components and a screen... There was no light yet, but we know it was there. And so were software developers. I have tremendous admiration for developers. The way they bring microprocessors and linked components to life. How they manage to 'feed' chips with data, filling them up with bites and codes, making our devices operate suiting our needs and requests. Amazing. Must be a wonderful occupation. Pure magic. Should developers keep a diary, I'm sure they would all start with: "In the beginning, there was nothing but an idea and no money..." Developing is indeed a creators' work. Beats me. Now, if a developer like Scilor - beside making software and releasing it for free - replies in our forum, giving feedback to user's questions and comments about his programs, then he gets one more star on my "heroes" ranking. If he also makes some time to participate in contests and several activities on the site (I even think he promised me a PDA somewhere, although I swear this has nothing to do with becoming a 'hero') then he is really standing out of the blue. Scilor, you are an artist, you make brilliant programs (here), you have bright ideas and I like your style. You are now to me, a Hero for a day...

Dec 30: The Czech Republic has been a member of NATO since 1999 and of the European Union since 2004. Since November 2008 a real Czech genius/student joined PPCwarez. Once more you may think I choose my heroes at a wrong moment, because he has also been away from the site for a while... (hihi!) Again a very efficient release tester, from which you can also find some very accurate test reviews on this site. This one is a killer! rullaf has knowledge about coding and programming and wrote us already some very useful scripts. He is also the one that build the "Appstore" for PPCwarez (check it out here, you'll never leave home without it any more...) which made us discover a whole new way to download released programs directly to our mobiles. Like I said, a real genius! It's been a while we haven't seen him on site. He is probably busy with school things, or maybe some internet provider matters make it difficult for him to join lately. Sure it's not the last thing we heard from this promising guy. We're looking forward what he has in mind for the future. You can find his homepage in his user profile. Eventually you can pay him a visit and drop a message if you like. Say hello. Tell him we need him. Tell him we miss him. So much that I make rullaf my Hero for a day...

Dec 31:Image "Please release me let me go ..." ... a well-known song from Engelbert Humperdinck, covered by Elvis Presley and by Dolly Parton, interpreted by Jim Reeves and brought before a large audience by Freddie Hart. Mmm... all famous artists, but I'm not sure who actually wrote the song and who was the original performer. Freddie Hart? Maybe. My next hero is not a singer. At least, I presume. Unless he's singing while he's visiting the site while he watches the comments and replies to the posts he makes. (You don't want to know who the singers are on this site, believe me!) ok. Broad makes posts. A lot. Mainly releases. It looks like every program or game he encounters has printed in big letters on the cover "Please release me let me go... to PPCwarez"...haha! That's exactly what he does: he releases. Broad is one of our most important "major" releasers. Excuse me... Ultra releasers! Games, utilities, applications, mirrors,...anything. Sometimes I think he makes programs himself so he can release them! Beside the fact that his releases are always perfectly made following the rules, Broad is also very well aware about version numbers and cracks, and follows what is released on the site. That way he finds out very quickly if a release is double posted or eventually fake, and replies accordingly. It's a big help to our mods doing this. You can trust his actions. Nice. One more user who's a blessing for the forum. Thank you, Broad, for your work and help, and it's my pleasure to make you - for the last day of the year - my Hero for a day...

So. This concludes my very own personal heroes overview for 2009. I've chosen my heroes carefully. I apologize if I abused the mystic word "hero" notifying those users who are special to me, and to the site in general. I realize very well that real heroes are those people "on the field", in real life, taking care of the poor and homeless, caring for children without parents and mothers in need, and those concerned about environment and nature... But, we're on a website and so I should be allowed to have my personal heroes at site level. Btw, do not think you are not important to this site if I didn't mention you. I can't see everything and I'm a rather difficult person. (Another family feature). Every user is at least a hero to someone, and definitely to PPCwarez in general.

Finally, we can't start 2010 empty-handed, can we? I have a present for my heroes. Every hero that I mentioned here will get an equal share of my personal present of 2010 WRZ$... Thirteen heroes, makes 155 WRZ$ each. (Pay the winners, partn...? ouch... Damn! Speaking of a real hero... wish I was blessed like my uncle, having a very personal partner/hero of his own, would also make my life complete...)

Thanks for reading and best wishes for 2010! - Zach
