GOOD ENOUGH

The clash at the “Massimino” ended 1-1. The Rossoneri went ahead with a wonderful goal by Pato, but then they are reached by Spinesi in the second half. The race for the fourth place continues.

CATANIA – It must be considered as a positive result the one obtained at the “Massimino” of Catania. Milan drew 1-1 with a team with many unavailable players, against a team which in the second half put in big difficult the Rossoneri’s defence.

Fiorentina won and therefore Milan is once again behind the fourth place, but the Rossoneri still remain in the race in a season which is still very long.

As mentioned lately, with a team not at its best and without many decisive players, a draw away from home against a team coming from 4 consecutive defeats and therefore with a lot of fighting spirit must be accepted ahead of better times. The disappointment still remains for having seen Milan going ahead with a very nice goal by Pato.

For the young prodigy it’s the 5th goal of the season, following a great move and finalized with an accurate shot from the distance.

Feeling strong following the goal, Milan was more solid and determined to defend the result, aiming on the attacks by Pato. However, it was Catania that changed and is re-modelled by its coach with the addition of Spinesi.

The Catania attack has more weight where with Martinez and Mascara supports the movements of Spinesi who is very good at opening spaces for the movement forward of his team-mates. In the 64th minute it’s a chance by Vargas which creates the conditions for the draw. The left winger puts a ball in the middle for Spinesi who heads past Kalac.

Towards the end Milan suffered and showed an athletic condition which was not good enough. A further reason to accept the pitch’s verdict and wait for better days.

WAITING FOR BETTER DAYS

The squad acknowledges the difficulty of this period. Adriano Galliani and Carlo Ancelotti remain calm as they await better days.

CATANIA - Adriano Galliani and Carlo Ancelotti accepted the draw at Catania with a lot of serenity.

GALLIANI

"A difficult match, but we knew it would be, we played quite well and then we conceded the goal. With a third striker they put us in difficulty and this was the result. The draw was the right result, now we proceed in the battle for fourth place and think about the game against Lazio. Pato? He's an extraordinary lad, he scored a great goal, I'm very happy we bought this player. Ancelotti is trying to help him find his best position with a lot of good advice."

ANCELOTTI

"Drawing at Catania is acceptable, at the moment we are giving our all but we do have some problems because we are using players who aren't in their best conditions. The situation will certainly improve, now we have to think about recovering. Concerning tonight's game it was too bad we didn't keep the lead, on the goal we were surprised. Now we must think of getting the best from ourselves until we get to the Champions League game against Arsenal. Pato's goal? A very nice one."

TOO BAD!

"Too bad about the draw because we managed to go in front, then they equalised with a nice goal. Now we must think about beating Lazio."

- THE DECLARATIONS OF THE ROSSONERI -

CATANIA - Here are the declarations made by the rossoneri after Catania-Milan 1-1:

DANIELE BONERA:

"Too bad because tonight it would have been fundamental to bring home the three points, we could and should have defended the lead better. We knew they would put us in difficulty near the end of the game, then they also had the crowd on their side and at a certain point we also risked losing. Then Catania made a tactical change, using Spinesi as a reference point with Mascara who played close to him. Too bad because after we went in front we could have closed the game."

ALEXANDRE PATO:

"I scored a nice goal, too bad we didn't win the game. During training the coach often asks me to shoot on goal and tonight's goal came because of this advice. Now we have to do better against Lazio, we're playing at home in front of our fans."

MASSIMO ODDO:

"The draw is the right result. Pato scored a wonderful goal, then Catania scored on their first dangerous chance and it was a nice goal as well. We are very tired, we have to recover our strengths and tonight certain players came on who don't always play. It's not easy to play so little and then do well as soon as you are called upon. The important thing is to remain close to the fourth place and take advantage of the next chances. Near the end of the match it became more difficult because of the tiredness."

FILIPPO INZAGHI:

"Too bad about the draw because we managed to go in front, then they equalised with a nice goal. On Sunday we won at the last minute, today we drew, but now we must only think about beating Lazio on Saturday night.
I didn't think the goal I scored was offside when they called it off, because I had tried to decelerate on Clarence's cross, I'm disappointed because we could have closed the game. Catania were very sealed off at the back, they had five defenders. In the first half we created some chances and gave little away, then after the equaliser we risked more. Now we have to think about Lazio because if we win on Saturday we would be on our way."

WINNING MENTALITY

The day after the match against Catania, Emerson talked about the 'Massimino' game, about Lazio, about the Champions League match against Arsenal, and about "his" Pato.

- THE DECLARATIONS OF THE PUMA -

MILANELLO - Here are the declarations made by Emerson to Milan Channel after today's training session:

"Usually I don't like to talk about referees because they have huge responsibilities and they are forced to make decisions in very tricky situations, I understand their work and their efforts. During yesterday's game against Catania, however, the referee stopped the play every two minutes for fouls which are a part of the game, because football is also a contact sport. This penalised us as we tried to move up the pitch. A team like Milan which has the responsibility to win to reach certain objectives, also because of these continuous interruptons, was unable to build many dangerous moves. By now players know when the referee will stop the play during games. In my opinion referees should change their evaluation methods a little.

Abroad the mentality is different from Italy, teams play in a different way, always trying to win in every situation and putting their opponents in difficulty. But in Italy teams are more tactical and on certain grounds it is more difficult to build up the play. The comparison between Italy and other countries is difficult because the mentality is different.

Unfortunately yesterday night we were unable to win, there was some tiredness, and we also have a lot of responsibility, we are aware we have to reach certain objectives. Also the fact we took part in the Club World Cup in Japan and that we had to recover three league games made it difficult for us to recharge ourselves after each game. We have to be stronger, it's a difficult, delicate moment, but we can still reach our objective which is the fourth place. On Tuesday we also have the second leg of the Champions League tie with Arsenal in which there is still all to play for and we will need to be strong mentally.

Saturday night we are facing Lazio at San Siro, when teams play against Milan they always want to show something more and in front of our crowd we certainly have some more responsibility. Also on Sunday there is Juventus-Fiorentina, so for Milan it will be crucial to win and get the three points.

For the return game against Arsenal, I am very confident because Milan know what it takes to play in the Champions League and the players are aware of their responsibilities. I expect a great game, the team knows what it has to do: qualify and go all the way in the Champions League.

Yesterday night Pato scored a great goal. He has some impressive qualities, he still has to grow, he's just arrived at Milan and still has to learn the mechanisms of the Italian league. But he really has some great qualities."

GALLIANI: 'Kaká at Milan for life'

MILAN - Here are Adriano Galliani's comments after Kaká's signature: 'Ricky has repeatedly stated that he wants to become a symbol of this team: he is, he's the best footballer in the world, and he's decided to tie himself definitively with Milan's colors. This is a life contract, I hope that in 2013 I will make him a new contract, but now we already know Kaká will delight Milan's fans until the end of his career. It's great news for all us Milan fans.'

GALLIANI: 'Kaká a symbol of Berlusconi's Milan'

MILAN - 'Kaká has made this decision. He always had the conviction, but never as strong as in the last few months. Kaká is a symbol of the football expressed by Silvio Berlusconi's Milan. At the moment he is the best footballer in the world, and he's surrounded by great players, like Pirlo, Seedorf, who give this team a lot of quality. With these players Milan are the defending European Champions and World Champions.'

GALLIANI ON CURRENT TOPICS

MILAN - 'At the moment we have a few problems with injuries, because we are playing every three days. The news of Kaká's renewal is certainly good for the whole environment. Kaká will certainly miss the game against Lazio, let's hope he will be at his best against Arsenal. I hope that Kaká and all players like him are more protected, especially against fouls from behind. This type of foul should be punished with a red card because it's a cowardly foul, which can really damage an opposition player and end careers.'
