MILAN: WORLD RECORD!
12/16/2007 2:25:00 PM
They defended the European pride and reached the absolute record of world cup wins (four). However, Milan broke another world record: that of the number of trophies won. They are 18, no other club like us! No one!

YOKOHAMA - The win in the Club World Cup is not only a great result for the team of Carlo Ancelotti. It's not just the crowning of a great 2007, which saw Milan win the Champions League at Athens, the European SuperCup at Montecarlo, and today, the Club World Cup in Japan. It's not just the European pride which imposes for the first time on the South American one since the change of the tournament formula (Liverpool and Barcelona both lost against San Paolo and Internacional de Porto Alegre). Between Milan and Boca there was at stake also a double record: that of intercontinental success and that of international trophies. A double record which was coloured in red and black.

Rossoneri and Argentineans, before this game, were both at 17 international wins: from now on, Milan is ahead of everyone, on the top of the world, higher than any other team.

A TRIUMPHANT STANDING!

MILAN: 18 Trophies
Boca: 17
Real Madrid and Independiente: 15
Al Ahly: 13
Ayax-Liverpool-Barcellona-San Paolo-Zamalek: 11
Juventus: 10

The head to head with the Argentineans therefore goes to the Milanisti. Hereunder is the palmares of the two teams who faced each other today at Yokohama:

THE 18 TROPHIES OF MILAN

4 Intercontinental Cups, 7 Champions League, 5 European SuperCups, 2 Cup Winners Cup

THE 17 TROPHIES OF BOCA

3 Intercontinental Cups, 6 Libertadores Cups, 2 Cope Sudamericane, 1 Supercopa Sudamericana, 1 Supercoppa Masters, 3 Recope Sudamericane, 1 Copa De Oro.

The game in the game was about the World Cup tournament of Japan. Milan is in the history books, Milan is the only club to have triumphed 4 times in the world: in 1969, in 1989, 1990 and in 2007!

Boca remains with three (1977, 2000, 2003), just like Real Madrid, the Brazilians of San Paolo and the Uruguay sides of Nacional and Penarol. The world record is of the Rossoneri, and therefore, let's re-build the 'intercontinental' mosaic, which from today has a new unforgettable piece:

THE 4 ROSSONERI'S WORLD CUPS

1969: MILAN-ESTUDIANTES 3-0//ESTUDIANTES-MILAN 2-1

1989: MILAN-ATLETICO N. MEDELLIN 1-0

1990: MILAN-OLIMPIA ASSUNCION 3-0

2007: BOCA JUNIORS-MILAN 2-4

PROMISE KEPT

Milan are back on top of the world after 17 years. Adriano Galliani and Carlo Ancelotti don't hide their joy and reveal that at the start of the season they had asked the team explicitly for this trophy.

YOKOHAMA - Here are the declarations of Adriano Galliani and Carlo Ancelotti after the World Cup triumph of the Rossoneri, at the end of Boca-Milan:

ADRIANO GALLIANI

"We strongly wanted this trophy. We've been saying it since the summer. I'd say it's fantastic the way we achieved it: we won against Boca, who beat us four years ago... just like it happened in Athens, against Liverpool. Too bad the President was not here, but he will be there at the airplane's landing. Along with Berlusconi, at the start of the season, we told the players who important it was to win this trophy, because we wanted to be the first to bring the trophy to Europe and become the most winning club in the world. I emphasize again this incredible turn of destiny: it twice gave us the possibility of facing teams that had beaten us before. Now we have settled the scores with Liverpool and Boca, but we care the most about our Palmares: being the most trophy-winning club in the world must be remembered. Pippo is stratospheric. He prepares for big events in a unique way, he scored 5 goals in the three finals we've played this year, what more can I say? He's like a tight violin chord. We have the culture of success, we are used to reaching finals and often we win them. Now we can finally say our players are Club World Champions. That's why I think we are first in the world in two aspects: national team and clubs. Now we go to Zurich, with Kaká at an advantage over Messi and C. Ronaldo. It was Kaká himself who decided to donate 2 million Yen to Fondazione Milan, a great gesture that shows the worth of this lad. Finally I wanted to say that on 16 December 1899 Milan were founded, on the same day in 1999 I strongly wanted to start Milan Channel, and exactly 8 years later we are on top of the world again. Incredible."

CARLO ANCELOTTI

"We are glad we kept the promise we made to President Berlusconi. We strongly wanted the victory and we obtained it. Now let's hope 2008 will be as fantastic as this year, but certainly won't be easy. It was an unforgettable and unrepeatable year. It was a utopia to think we could win back in the summer of 2006. Instead, we took care of all the details, and ended up winning. I take home all the goals we scored, the press conferences, the moves, so the more difficult moments make me suffer less. Getting here isn't easy, you have to do great things to do so. The Golden Ball to Kaká gave him even more stimulations. He's showing great things match after match. Now I made an appointment with Inzaghi for the Moscow final, and from today all the Milanisti are even more Milanisti."

MILAN: PARTY ATMOSPHERE

MILAN - As they came back to their hotel, the Rossoneri squad had dinner in a party atmosphere due to the victory in the Club World Cup. The whole group celebrated the deserved victory together. The same thing happened in Milan, especially in Piazza Duomo. A great number of Milan fans invaded the center of the city. There was even a polesterol reconstruction of the World Cup which was a few meters high!

MILAN - President Silvio Berlusconi talked about Kaká's performance and looks at Pato with enthusiasm: "Kaká was as great as ever, he confirmed he is at the top compared to other footballers in the world, tomorrow in Zurich he'll pick up another great prize. Our great hope after him is called Pato. Ancelotti told me he can get close to Kaká, his moves in training are extraordinary, he has a very pure talent and so we are very hopeful."

BERLUSCONI: "Pippo has a great footballing intelligence"

MILAN - The President continued to talk about Pippo Inzaghi: "Pippo is a vicious player. But I saw certain vices are not a bad thing. His secret? He has a great talent, which is his sense of positioning. Perhaps his touch on the ball isn't very good, but he lives for the goal. He has a great footballing intelligence, he always manages to find himself at the right place at the right time."

BERLUSCONI: "We are not old and I believe in Ronaldo"

MILAN - The President doesn't want to hear allegations of an "old" Milan squad, according to him the average age of players has increased: "Take Maldini and his extraordinary longevity, he is an example for his team mates. Today thanks to the medicine of sports and a correct living style the career of a player can increase in length. That's why I think Ronaldo can still play five years at a high level."

We are enchanted by him and what he does on the pitch, as well as how he presents himself off it. For that there was no reason for him to have to do without Milan and Milan without him."
