I don't know how filesonic became the bete noire, either people like it or they loathe it.
I should point out that filesonic is not the only site offering incentives to uploaders - wupload, duckload, fileserve, hotfile, megaupload ad nauseam all do it.
As to mediafire, the popups on that site are notorious for loading nasties on your computer. I didn't realize filesonic was doing the same thing.
Long before filesonic came along, people were using MU FS etc and not a peep was said about earning money off it.
Take a look at what's being offered on filesonic before you stamp your foot - it's generally the up-to-date ebook offerings that people want.
If anything, this site should mandate one site as a mirror - e.g., ifile. ifile has a no bs download system, no nasties, no incentives. A captcha comes into place after 3 downloads, but it's always easy to use.
An uploader can use whatever site he wants as a primary download, but the mirror would be a site everyone can easily access.
And I should say, if filesonic is banned, just how fast do you think up-to-the-minute releases will be posted in here - because the people using filesonic as their host will just go somewhere else.

Bonus’s are obtained by download ratio, the size of said download contributes to the size of the payout along with a significant fee for any new subscribers. The thing is this, they have done their homework well. They are cornering the market, in some cases it is greed and in other cases financial necessity that motivates people to utilize this facility. It makes good business sense, corner the market, make it incredibly difficult and frustrating for free users and in the end, many will ultimately become financial members to simplify things.

I see Filesonic users as a two edged blade, on the one hand, as contributors, they do bring to the party many releases that would take a good deal longer to trickle through, if at all, along with a greater selection. It is this greater selection and regular contribution that insures the continuity of sites such as this. If you give me the shites, I will contribute no more, but these people do not care, they just plod away with hides as thick as leather.

I am in no way in favor of Filesonic and less so with Wupload and those that utilize both…. Well…. I won’t elaborate, but the drift is clear. They are becoming too big and stepping on too many toes, really, I believe it is only a question of time before pressure is bought to bear and the walls come tumbling down. Although I am sure some savey individual will step into the niche and so it will begin again. Tis unfortunately the nature of the beast, there is a market out there and lets face it, we all require an income, therefore I cannot see the point in banning them. It will ultimately create to many issues.

I share your point of view, I only want to share book not make bucks! I now prefer multiupload and mirrorcreator, atleast the links are there longer and plenty of choice!

A large part of the problem has been some recent uploaders who use Filesonic and then STUFFED EVERY one of their uploads with every possible formats of a book so that the file was as big as it could possibly be to gain the most that they could from Filesonic. Then to top it off, they were flooding the forum with as many posts as they could. Again, to get the most that they can.

Hmm, I haven't seen this or ever had this happen to me, but, then again, I'm on Firefox with the Adblock Plus plug-in running, so I don't usually see ads anyway.

Not saying it doesn't happen, just that I have never had a problem with them. YMMV

Oddly enough I've tried that, and the sites have never works for me, just giving me the run around. In a way I'm happy I'm not the only one who has so much trouble with these sities

i would also like to comment, some people here d/l what we put up and then use them an other site using filesonic. in other words. they take our u/loads, move them to filesonic then post them on other sites to make money.... i know because it happened to me... i scanned and posted, next thing it was on an other site with filesonic.

I find authors in these forums, and if i like their books buy them , scan and format them to let other people get to know these good authors.. not to make money.

so what does the admin think.. should we all join filesonic..

There is no question that some posters are using Filesonic (primarily) to make money for themselves.
There is also no doubt that most of these same people have no trouble downloading from other peoples links and re-uploading, or even possibly filching links.
The mirror rule, while it imposes a burden on all, that was enacted here is probably the best solution I've seen so far.
I really don't feel that the powers that be here want everyone to use filesonic.
I also don't feel that they think the best solution is to ban filesonic links either.
Besides, how far will we take it?
The Wupload links/mirrors are also money makers from what I hear.

While I dislike Filesonic too, I find I can download what I want from it 90 something percent of the time.
I don't get mad until I want a second book and get hit with the 15 minute wait.
Then you'll see a little steam.

Right.

Right again.

Besides, how far will we take it?

Exactly.

That's when the mirror comes in ;-)

I have no problem with filesonic at all. Like Bohica, I run firefox with NoScript, AdBlock Plus and Malwarebytes (worth the $25 one time fee) to take care of all the pesky ads and pop ups. I download, run a second virus scan and email or sync to my gadgets. And if I don't feel like waiting the 15 or 30 minutes for a download, I unplug my router, wait a few minutes, plug it back in and it's ready to go. I've done it a couple of times and it works just fine, specially if I'm streaming a movie and I run up the 72 minute time limit.

I also find that if you ask for a link other than the ones available, via a PM not a post, 99.99% of the time you will get it as fast as the guy can do it, otherwise you tell a MOD about it, problem solved.

Now, If you can't find a better thing to do than bitch about having to wait 15 minutes for a download to become available, or how much money this or that guy is making, you have bigger problems than you think.

I suggest reading a book while you wait. It helps.

Yes, I know just what you mean, I keep pretty much to two sites, and even then, am overwhelmed with the amount of reading material available.

On my secondary site, I uploaded a realease that took quite some time to bring accross into the various formats. Within 24 hours my release had been downloaded and then re-uploaded as is, to the SAME site, using another file server not once, but twice. Hows that for value!!!!! What does one say? Well Bugga me!!!! or something like that.... Nothing like in ya face lolz. I guess though at the end of the day, it happens to everyone, admitedly not usually on the same site, but accross the sites.

Oh and hmorphone, are you feeling very right at the moment? If not then you should be.... You are lookin pretty well right to me!!!
