Bohica, I can understand your frustration. While I can agree that it may discourage a few posters, I'm not sure that it'll be that much of a problem in the long run. I agree that it will take time for a release to get fully "thanked," but I think it'll work. The muti-book releases are going to be the trickiest, but over time I think they may pull in the biggest amount of thanks too.

Like Hellion, I'm used to a similar system that actually had no reward involved. I got angry on occasion because, as you said, even when there was no WRZ involved, you could often have 1 thanks to every 5 to 10 downloads. Ebook readers, while you would expect a higher standard, seem to include as many disappointing types of people as other groups.

I like the idea of extending the thanks to mirrors/add ons, but I have my doubts as to whether it is feasible for the forum to set that up.

Hellion, the only thing I've found so far to use WRZ on is to reward ebook request fillers, but that does make'em somewhat valuable in my book. It sure beats using them on sports bets!

Bohica, you look like you've got enough WRZ to get by for a little bit :D , but I understand... It's not really the WRZ, it's the gesture behind it - the real thanks.

The only thing I can see to do, is to somehow make the message more obvious to the rest of the users that the WRZ does not come out of their pocket. I do feel that would help things along...

Hey everyone,
I'm with hmorpone, the only thing I found to use WRZ is book requests, and maybe becoming a VIP if I ever accumulated enough!

I suppose you could add a message to your sig?
"It doesn't cost anything to say thanks, so give me a thumbs up!"?

AAARGH!!! You miss my point entirely! It is not about ME! It is not about MY posts!

I am not frustrated about the new system! I AM frustrated by what I'm almost sure it is going to do to the number or amount of uploads here!

Yeah, I sure do - and that means exactly zilch, zip, nada to me! I could give a Rat's A&% about the WRZ$. I used my release as an example simply because those are the only posts for which I have access to the download data!

My concern is about the people who are going to decide that its not a quick enough reward method to bother posting. THEY are NOT going to understand.

womble wrote:I'm with hmorpone, the only thing I found to use WRZ is book requests, and maybe becoming a VIP if I ever accumulated enough!

Basically my thoughts on the WRZ$ too. You can't really DO that much with them, but there are many here who are going to be upset about losing that method to "rack up points."

These might help and, in the long run, probably will, but in the meantime, who knows? I have a trial version now in my sigline.

That's a terrific idea!!!

The thing is, on the internet, as in life, there are those that will take and give back zip, there are those who preach one thing and yet practice another and of course there are those that take offence and allow it to prejudice, taint any future association/contribution. It is really dependent on that individual’s progress along their own path.

Saying thankyou, is a gesture, an acknowledgment of another’s contribution. You know over a period of time, it may pan out, you may just visit a page in a months time and see a number of new thankyou’s.

I would be surprised if the “Thankyou” method would have any effect on future listings. Over the last few days there have been quite a number of new names, new listers, it is really lovely to see people getting involved and very welcome. Actually it might be an idea to go through and thank new listers for participating even if you are not interested in the publication.

I have always wondered if peoples hope for anonymity on the net contributes to the lack of thanks given?

Thank you hmorpone and womble for the wrz info, greatly appreciated

Cheers

Courtesy costs nothing, no one can make you feel inferior without your own consent!!!

Agreed, BUT they have also set it up so that this is the only way the OP (original poster) gets paid for his/her contribution. Maybe that WON'T have any negative effect on most posters, but somehow, I think it will (although, like the rest of you, I'm hoping for the better outcome).

I went through and had a look at a couple of pages, just checking out the thank you's left. Some are certainly getting the lions share :-), I guess time will tell Bohica60, but it does make life a little easier for the mod's and it appears that more people are starting to get the hang of it now.

I like being given the opportunity to express my thanks to someone and have noticed that Womble put up a thread concerning her/his wish to do so also.

Way to go with your signature. Looks great!!!

Bohica - I think I did grasp (mostly) that you were more concerned with the effect on other posters (than yourself.)
You were looking at how they would take it - which would then affect all of us if they were to stop posting.

I also like womble's idea. I hope you (Bohica) don't mind me filching the version you made :D

Please PM if you have a problem with my link, or if you just feel like talking...
Don't forget to click Image to show your appreciation. No WRZ$ will be deducted from your account.

EXACTLY! There really aren't all THAT many who are regular active posters, and anything that cuts those numbers of active posters .....

Not at all, feel free. (That goes for anyone else who would like to also) The more people who do use it, the faster folks will catch on that it's the right way to say "Thanks."

EDITED TO ADD: Well, I changed out my Sig, so I guess they will have to copy yours now!

I just modified it by adding 'It's Free!' to the pic to possibly make it even more clear that it costs them nothing!

Bohica is right in so many ways!

Here is a scenario:

OLD:Newbie joines and immediately requests a number of books. Newbie runs out of WR$. Newbie realizes that he/she has to contribute before he/she can request again. Newbie posts release with 8 books in a series. Newbie now has WR$ 43. Newbie can request again!

NEW: Same as above, but no reward. Thanked 3 times (if he/she is lucky!). WR$ 3 cannot excite anyone to help fulfill a request.

Result: No new releases.

I have noticed a reduction in releases from the GREAT posters. i.e. the books I am interested in. Maybe its my imagination?

OR, realizing that he/she gets 0.10 WRZ$ for every message post made, promptly runs around making meaningless posts all over the forum to try and rebuild their 'funds' more quickly than just waiting for it to be slowly built back up through the use of the "Thanks" system. (just pointing out another unwanted result of all this.)

[b]Beukies]/b] I love your new sig 8) it's eye catching! I think members will be checking posts just to see sigs! I hope this system doesn't discourage too many posters, most have been here a while hopefully they'l have patience and wait it out?
