If I may make a suggestion or a request if you like: When ebook releases reach 2-3 years old and the d/l links are long time dead, is it not possible to delete that post completely and allow members to post new? Example: Sidney Sheldon post died a long time ago (2007), and it was only in DOC format anyway. To reformat, update Metadata, upload to at least 2 filehosts (because of requests by other members), is a lot of work, and then the reward is only WR$4. Surely the time and effort should mean more than that?

I have noticed other ones because of requests, and I would really like to help the other members as I have 1000's of books in my library.

Wonder what other members think?

If a link is dead and you don't get a reply from me, please refer it to a Mod. Apologies for the inconvenience.

I've always wondered if Mobilism could host these files for download without having to use Filesonic and the other premium hosts. It would be my suggestion to offer this to all VIP members for $25 per year. To gain VIP status, it woulc cost a one time charge of $25 and then the per year charge would kick in. This would raise funds to buy and maintain your own server for storage of files and downloads.

I make this suggestion without knowing anything about the legal ramifications.

Aximtreo - I don't believe the legal ramifications would allow that.

Beukies - I feel your pain. I wonder if this could at least be considered on a case by case basis?

I sort of thought so but wasn't sure. I am so tired of so many host sites that fail, partially download or make you wait for what seems forever. Just a thought :(

We do not delete old posts with dead links, but we do send them to a section called 'Expired Ebook Releases' that was created precisely for that reason.

But you have to understand that mods don't go checking out the links in old posts regularly (not even ours), those only come to light when someone is interested and bumps the post, or when another user has a brand new set of books and posts them.
In principle, that would be a double post: you don't know whether the original poster would be willing and/or able to replace the links and the files or not. So the books are there, we respect that and post a mirror.

However, I have 'expired' some old posts after receiving a request from a member who wanted to post and found the books in an old post with dead links, but only after making sure that the OP would not be replacing them.

So this:

is the best option. Pm a mod and explain, we'll see that the rights of all involved are protected.

Thanks,

That is a surprisingly compassionate solution Merry.
I respect that and see how it could work out.

This situation reminds me a little of that Rolling Stone's song - "You can't always get what you want."

PS - Apologies to those who aren't Rolling Stones fans, you have to know the next line in the song to understand...

err ... for those who have requested my dead links to be re-uploaded, please be patient, will ya ? Slow but sure I'll fulfill all of your requests, :? Mind you, most of these requests are frequent flyers, err ... I mean, frequently dead asap once I managed to refresh. So you see, I'm kinda desperate to keep doing it. But........ one way or another, I always try to refresh them.

I like that 'frequent flyers' very apt, when I put mine up I try to do extra links after renaming the file, but there is a limit, and once you've got a large number of posts it's impossible to keep track of each one!
