how do you thanks someone for their post without spaming? I noticed on a couple of posts there was a thumbs up symbol in the bottom right corner of a post, if this is the way to thank someone, how do you insert it in your post?

You could just PM them. That's one of the reason FOR the PM system - communicating without clogging the posts with messages. If you REALLY want to thank them you can send them a WRZ$ donation.
