This kind of thing:

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=238489

really needs to go away.

What am I talking about? Ginormous "mah collections!" posts that have no other goal than to generate traffic and premium memberships at "one" click hosters. You have to download /all/ the parts to get even a single book and you're going to get badgered into buying a premium membership to get all the parts. The more traffic, the higher the uploader's paycheck.
Exceptions could be provided for /actual/ book series, but this dumping garbage just to generate traffic needs to stop.

While I agree with you wholeheartedly in spirit, there is really not much that can be done as long as they follow the rules for posting a release (Unfortunately! :? )

But some of them do get out of hand. That particular poster seems to ONLY make posts like that, again, unfortunately. They are not here to share books. They are only here out of greed.

There was another one on here the other day who was posting this kind of thing (23.88 Gigabytes of Car Repair Manuals! ), but he was posting incorrectly and his posts now all seem to be gone.

I wish ALL the 'dump posts' (I really like that name for them! :D ) could be treated the same way! But as long as their releases are posted correctly, they have the same posting privileges as you or I.

Absolutely right.

We can't stop something that obviously has its fans, there are people who actually like them and have the time and bandwidth to download them. Others who have premium accounts in that file host don't even understand the reason for the hassle.

I hear your frustration but not much more we can do, already a mandatory mirror rule has been created to give users the option to download from at least another host. The best course of action is to ignore these posts, stop bumping them with claims or comments of any kind and let them be for those who enjoy them.

Thanks all the same for your input, duly noted ;-)

I've posted a couple of series of books, I didn't realise it could cause problems, is it preferable to post one book at a time? I'm curious as I'm new to this and still learning, any tips would be helpful

No no, I wasn't whining about series of books when they're actually series. All 143 books of The Destroyer series? Go for it! All 5390 Perry Rhodans in every language they've been translated into? Please, by all means! Even the entire from one publisher? Why the hell not. But those posts that are just a random collections (can't even call them that) of random books just for the hell of it, where people would have to download hundreds of megabytes of multipart archives and are "encouraged" to sign up for payola premium accounts? Those are the ones I was talking about. You're good.

Sorry don't have those, but I agree with you, I just don't understand what they hope to gain by this, I just like to share what I've got in my library & new 'finds' I'm not interested in trying to gain profit,

I was just giving those as an example for actual book series.

These people are getting paid kickbacks depending on the amount of downloads their uploads are getting.

I imagine you're probably getting the idea now womble.
These are those 2 to 4 gig "every book in my collection" type posts.
And because the downloads are so huge, you just know you're going to need to pay "Filesonic" (for example) for a premium membership.
Golly, that way I will be "allowed" to download these huge files at a great speed!
And then a little of that money I paid is kicked back to who??
(the uploader, shhh....)

Like I said:

23.88 Gigabytes of Car Repair Manuals!?

ALL of them different! Unless you are opening up a body-shop, there are very few people who are going to want to download 23.88 Gigabytes of these just to get the 1, 2, or 3 that they can actually use. But, the uploader gets his money for uploading it. :(

Oddly enough, looking for some car repair manual software (Mitchell on Demand) was what got me into the whole piracy scene in first place, a dozen or so years ago. ;)
But those are better suited for torrents.
