Well, a lot of it really depends on the particular authors (and I would suppose the publishers also) attitudes, intentions, and decisions (as Bohica and womble have pointed out.)
There are things you can do, and the forum could do, that slow down your links getting killed, but no way I know of to stop it - short of going to one on one sharing or torrents.
This is where the term "not allowed author(s) came from.
These are the people who most aggressively pursue the taking down of links and excetera.
I have done everything short of password protecting my links or completely renaming the files to nonsense, and some still get nuked.
I put up a mirror for an anthology with Kim H arrison's name in it, it lasted about 1 day.
Then I put up 2 mirrors, Multiupload and Mirrorcreator, they lasted maybe 2 days. And it wasn't just individual links that were nuked, the whole mirror sets were pulled.
Womble posted a Keri A rthur book, I warned her not to expect that link to last.
What saves Mobilism, at times, is the fact that we aren't heavy on "erotic" fiction here, IE m/m erotica and so forth. Some of those authors feel very strongly about folks not sharing their books.
Someone once told me that the ironic thing was that some of these same books were poorly written, hmmm...
On the flip side, sometimes it's the authors themselves who put a book out to be shared.
I think when a lot of people "discover" a new author this way it may benefit everyone.
I believe Bohica is right, google is the biggest help to folks looking for links.
In another forum I know of, the forum software automatically changes a "not allowed" authors name into a different term.
Do I think that would work with us here? No, I don't
The same thing that might prevent a release from showing up on a google search, also would prevent it from showing up on a forum search (which would cause big problems.)
If you had to be registered to see the links, people will register to be able to do so...
If an author feels that strongly, maybe their work shouldn't be posted.
I'm sure it'll show up in a torrent, or a friend's library, anyway...
I would refrain from sharing someone's work if they asked me personally, but as of yet it hasn't happened.
It has happened to others though, just ask womble.
You can put files in a generically named RAR, inside 2 generically named folders inside the RAR, include a misc. picture to change the file size, upload it to file hosts without an account, and use sites that create mirrors, but things will still happen... even if Mobilism made the links invisible to non-logged in people, scrambled the author's name, and made users request access to the section, things will still be deleted...
Please PM if you have a problem with my link, or if you just feel like talking...
