What do you guys think of them? I'm just curious if it's just me, cause I have a devil of a time reading them half the time.

What are screen caps? Not my vote, I'm just trying to figure out what you mean by 'screen caps' BEFORE I vote.

Yeah, I think you are right they are image captures or something like that. The messed up letters you have to type in before you can DL from most file services. I just can not think of the name ATM...

Yes! That's the name! My husband says it all the time and I can never remember it. So sad.

I usually have to reload the D&%@ things until I find one I can read. I get the ones that are full of scientific equations or chemical formulas quite a lot of the time. I also get the ones full of symbols that are NOT on MY keyboard, so I HAVE to reload them to get one I CAN answer.

But it really doesn't matter. They aren't there for 'security purposes' (as they will claim) anyway. The paying members of those sites don't have to go through that rigamarole. They (the site managers) are under some kind of impression that if they Pi%& you off enough, you will WANT to buy their 'Premium' service.

I've never seen that technique work for ANY salesman. Make them mad enough at you that they will buy your product? Nope, doesn't work for me!

Yeah, I see that tactic a lot and I don't get it. Annoying people will not make them want to give you their money. What idiocy. Capchas aren't encouraging me to buy either. A free trial would work a lot better, but considering how many services we use here, that would get real pricey.

Well, the other reason I've heard for Captchas is to prevent automated "bots" from accessing something. In other words, the ability to decipher the Captcha proves that you're a human. I don't think that really is a legit reason for the ones that we are referring to though. Like was said, I think those are to try to annoy someone into buying the premium service!

Well I AM a human and I still have problems with some of them. I am partially vision-impaired. And some of those "Capchas" are pretty well impossible to identify WITH two good eyes. If it weren't for the ability to change them and try a different one, I probably would not have half the downloads i do now.

Amen to that. I like the ones that are just in italics, those are pretty decent, but then they throw in the one that looks like a bad copy of something written on wet paper with a crayon. And I'd never seen math formulas until today. That's for mentioning it and bringing that little delight into my life. ^_^

 Glad to see I'm not the ONLY one who gets those! I think they must be computer generated or something. Unless your computer is tied in to a scientific-style calculator or something, there is usually no way you COULD solve those.
