Have you ever found yourself seeking out new authors and books to read,
obsessing about finding that one book you're missing from a series,
trying to clean up the text on your latest download,
only to realize that all this has cut into your time for actually...

gasp...

Actually, yes! I seem to be stuck in "Collection Mode" sometimes. I see something that looks interesting, grab it, "Oh, it's part of a set/series? Well, better find those too! Wait, what is that book about? Oh, I better get these while I can ... " And so on and so on and so on ...

I'm like a squirrel storing nuts for winter! I just can't seem to stop 'acquiring' as many interesting reads as I can!

I am a well disciplined man with a goal oriented mind. I am not particularly obsessive or fixated, but once my well trained brain considers going in a certain direction (i.e. reading one particular book or searching for the one particular book by one particular author) it won't allow any other considerations from distracting me from the task at hand.

So, if I'm reading a book, or writing a letter or pondering upon a particular problem, my mind's steely discipline would prevent any lapses in my concentra...

Ooooooo! Shiny stuff! Pretty! Love shiny stuff!

I don't think that my OCD would allow my ADD to do more than one thing at a time. What was the question?

So conflicted
I know the feeling, I get carried away with an author or series and have find them all! But while I'm looking, the whiny voice in my head is saying 'wanna read' stomp, stomp (sorry inner toddler's out of control, doesn't get out too often!)

Oooh, you guys are ruthless.
I didn't expect such insightful and hilarious answers, especially not this early in the morning!
Now who's going to help me clean up the coffee I spit and spilled all over myself from laughing that hard!!

Nah, got my own tea to wipe up  I'm getting strange looks from my family, wondering about the sudden laughter from a quiet room, 'they're coming to take me away, ha ha'

There is actually an easy solution for you all ! Either use 2 screens( read on one search on the other) or if your present screen is large enough then split it between your reading app and the internet.
Easy really!

Sherlockx, dear boy, you strike me as a somewhat smart person, or at least not any dumber than your average sack of hammers, tell me, what the hell compelled you to make such a suggestion?

What we have here is one who has a split personality -thinks he's a squirrel- one who has Tourette's-can't control certain reflexes and keep from spiting for no reason- one a definite paranoid schizo-she thinks that "they" are coming to get her and laughs for no apparent reason- and most disturbing of all, a delusional transsexual from Transylvannia.

What do you think something as potentially fracturing as TWO foci of attention will do to them? Did you stop to think about the damage a split screen or -gasp!- two screens would do to any of them?

I shudder at the thought of it. You sir, are no humanitarian. And I am so glad that my force field was up when the tally man came to tally me bananas, daylight comes an' me wanna go home. DAY! Me say day,me say day, me say day, me say DAY-O, daylight comes an' me wanna go home.

Try getting that out of your head now.

It really isn't difficult Zackdog! Have you never watched someone playing 6 games of simultaneous chess? Or on much a lesser level walking down the street whilst composing a text message?`Of course I was taught yoga disciplines from a very young age which probably helps but a friend of mine who wasn't also manages it fairly well.Contemplate the hard wiring of the male hunter focus and what that involves in terms of senses and rationalisation.
a delusional bipolar transsexual from Transylvannia.
And just what is wrong with the Rocky Horror Picture Show?
You bring your knees in tight.
But it's the pelvic thrust
That really drives you insane.
Let's do the time-warp again.
Let's do the time-warp again.

Seriously though Zackdog try it with 2 paperbacks on table lecterns. so easy

p.s love the songs of Harry Belafonte but in the meantime get this one out of your head:
Hava Nagila

Hava nagila, hava nagila,
Hava, nagila venis mecha.
Hava nagila, hava nagila,
Hava nagila venis mecha.

Hava neranena, hava neranena,
Hava neranena, venis mecha.
Hava neranena, hava neranena,
Hava neranena, venis mecha

"... 'they're coming to take me away, ha ha' ... "

That one was always kinda weird, even back when it first came out!
"... the tally man came to tally me bananas, daylight comes an' me wanna go home."

Try getting that out of your head now.

Damn! You KNOW that's impossible once THAT song gets to rattling around in there!
"And just what is wrong with the Rocky Horror Picture Show?"

Everything! Nothing! That's what makes it so much FUN!

(Hmm, these quotes make me believe there are more members here closer to my own age group than I previously believed!)

As far as multi-tasking goes, if I'm watching a movie (and following what is going on), composing a release, reading a story online, surfing the web, converting a book in Calibre, working on a different book in Sigil, eating my dinner, all while yelling at the cats to "knock off the fighting," all at the same time, does that mean I have a problem?

If by your age group you mean anyone in the Nielsen ratings "target audience" of 18 to 49, yeah, there's a whole bunch of us in your age group. If you're not, well, you're on your own, old man.
