I can't remember if I've mentioned this before, but I still get a kick out of "The Secret" by Julie Garwood. I check my disbelief at the door and just enjoy the ride. :)

The Accidental Goddess, by Linnea Sinclair. A warrior pulls a Hail Mary in space during a dogfight, and is catapluted 300 years in the future. The problem is that everyone thinks she died in defeating the bad guys, and over time have elevated her to a goddess thanks to "the Sacred Sacrifice". She's got her hands full trying to figure out what she should do about it, if anything.

Lots of humor, snark and a genuine moral dilemma in the plot. I re-read it annually for the laughs.

Gads!

I can't believe I haven't added E. E. "Doc" Smith's 7 volume Lensman series to the list before this morning. The only reason I discovered this error was the fact that I had decided to start rereading the books, for the first time in a loonngg time, last night. If you want to read classic superscience then you can't go past Smith's series.

A passing thought: Saw the trailer for the second series of that great big steaming pile of excement and travesty Foundation yesterday and all it has done is entrenched my detestation of what they have done to Isaac Asimov's books.

The Widowmaker, by Mike Resnick. A bounty hunter is cryogenically frozen when he comes down with a fatal disease. In order to pay for his protection, his lawyers clone him using a blood sample from his younger years and send the clone out on a highly-dangerous-but-highly-paid job. The new Widowmaker does his best, but too many people are lying to him to make things easy...........

Normally, this isn't my cup of tea. But there is something about Resnick's writing that pulled me in, and the character was more appealing than anticipated. I took advantage of a sale and got three of the four books in the series for $2 each. Now I just have to wait for the last one to drop in price. :)

I was going to name another book/author until I was distracted by our tubby tabby (Norwegian Forest cat https://www.thesprucepets.com/thmb/H_jJ ... o_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():format(webp)/GettyImages-1012874850-10aed4af5d554498acc283f55dab8742.jpg) Miranda chewing on my glasses case and shoving books off the bedside drawers so she can curl up for the morning snooze.

Dendra, you should have a look at Jack Mcdevitt's Priscilla "Hutch" Hutchins books, also known as the Academy series. Gads, I've inadvertantly listed a favourite book(s).

I think I'll leave now, our other little black moggie Tickles (or Bleatbleat as we call her when she gets very vocal), has just appeared and is demanding that I pay attention to her. Sigh.

Further to E. E. "Doc" Smith's Lensman series that I'm currently rereading: They are just as corny, but still fun to read, as they were I last read them about 45 years ago.

On a side note: History of the World, Part 2 is excruciatingly unfunny. I barely made it through the first two episodes and will not be viewing anymore of this garbage. They must have offered Brooks a wheelbarrow load of cash to put his name to this show.

Ooooh, that is not good news. I love love love love the original movie, and was planning to binge-watch the series once all the episodes dropped. Maybe I'll try it with alcohol and see if that helps. :(
