How to Violate the 8th. Ammendment

and Bake a Cake While You're At It

Talk about "cruel and unusual punishment" I guess that life in prison wasn't bad enough punishment for the judge.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The bride wore white; the groom wore shackles.

The marriage of Danne Desbrow and his fiancee, Destiny, came just minutes after he was sentenced to 53 years-to-life in prison for first-degree murder, U-T San Diego reported Monday. San Diego Superior Court Judge Patricia Cookson officiated at both events. She even baked a cake for the Sept. 17 ceremony, the newspaper said. Cookson declined to respond to a request for comment from the newspaper.

Desbrow was sentenced for the 2003 killing of Kevin Santos after a witness with key information came forward recently. His defense attorney argued Desbrow was defending himself in a fight. During the two-month trial, Desbrow proposed to his girlfriend. The two met in high school but lost contact after she became pregnant at 16, according to the U-T.

They reunited in January after the mother tracked down Desbrow so their son could meet his father. Desbrow was in jail at the time awaiting trial. After Desbrow proposed, Cookson agreed to marry them, according to the U-T.

Cookson sentenced Desbrow to two consecutive 25-year-to-life terms and an additional three years for threatening a witness.

After the sentencing, members of the victim’s family were escorted out of the courtroom, the newspaper said. The couple’s relatives were allowed to remain. The deputies locked the doors and Cookson married the couple. The couple kissed and Cookson went back to her chambers. Moments later, she appeared with two pieces of vanilla Bundt cake on paper plates with plastic forks.

Destiny Desbrow told the newspaper the judge baked it herself.

Danne Desbrow intends to appeal the murder conviction. He remains in county jail pending another court hearing on a separate case in October. “Obviously, it was an unusual day from start to finish,” defense attorney Steve Cline told the U-T. “I mean, I appreciate that she honored the request for them to marry. But, I’ve never seen anything like that.”

From the "HaPPy nEwz DepratmEnt"

A 61-year-old Texas man admitted to a hospital not long ago appearing to be falling-down-drunk even though denying having had even a single drink was discovered to be unintentionally manufacturing beer in his stomach. With “Auto-Brewery Syndrome,” stomach-based yeast automatically ferments all starches (even vegetables or grains) passing through, converting them into ethanol. Normally, natural stomach bacteria control the yeast, but if, for example, antibiotics had inadvertently eliminated the bacteria, the yeast would prevail. The case was reported in a recent International Journal of Clinical Medicine.

Denmark Is Considered The Happiest Country.
You'll Never Guess Why.
I HAVE A PRETTY GOOD IDEA WHY(click here NSFW)

Last month, Denmark was crowned the happiest country in the world.

“The top countries generally rank higher in all six of the key factors identified in the World Happiness Report,” wrote University of British Columbia economics professor John Helliwell, one of the report's contributing authors. “Together, these six factors explain three quarters of differences in life evaluations across hundreds of countries and over the years.”

The six factors for a happy nation split evenly between concerns on a government- and on a human-scale. The happiest countries have in common a large GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy at birth and a lack of corruption in leadership. But also essential were three things over which individual citizens have a bit more control over: A sense of social support, freedom to make life choices and a culture of generosity.

MUST BE mesquite's Messed Up Monday

“Pig Drinks 18 Pints and Has Fight with Cow” read one August headline from Port Hedland, West Australia, after rampaging wild pigs stole and drank 18 beers from a campsite. International Business Times, summarizing recent research in September, noted that moose, especially, are attracted by fermenting apples; that prairie voles are prominent social drinkers (consuming much more of available alcohol when other voles are around); and that African elephants often turn violent to secure the fermenting fruit of the marula tree (although the elephant would require 1,400 pieces of fruit to generate the seven gallons of alcohol that--if consumed all at once--would match humans’ “legal limit” for driving).

From The Too Much Time On My Frakin' Hands Dept.:

Brigham Young University's Splash Lab produced this slow-mo simulation of what happens when a man pees into a toilet bowl while standing up. They write:

The amount of splash is considerable and should make one reconsider standing up to urinate. The repeated impact of the droplets opens up a large and interesting cavity with multiple ridges. Each droplet forms a small cavity wherein the next droplet can pass through and form a cavity an additional cavity creating a chain of small cavity structures. Splash is formed both from the initial impact as well as the collapse of this large cavity. The process repeats itself over and over creating a real mess.
