Hi
Since Calibre can’t remove drm from the latest kindle books anymore, can anyone recommend a decent alternative?
I have at least half a dozen books from which I need to remove the drm, it’s quite a nuisance.

Hey, you can download epubor ultimate, works like a charm and quite easy to work with too.

I’ve heard about that one but it saves books in txt. format. I’m not sure how well that would convert to ePub.

There should be a button that says 'convert to epub'. Try playing with the settings

If you want to keep using Calibre to remove DRM from Kindle ebooks on a Windows PC, you need to install Kindle-for-PC-1-17-0-Build-44170 or older. You also need to turn off automatic updates of the Kindle App, so it will not install a newer version of the app. Kindle versions more recent than Kindle-for-PC-1-17-0-Build-44170 use the KFX format, designed to nobble DRM removal in Calibre using Apprentice Alf add-on. Works perfectly for me.

I'm running Calibre 4.8 [64 bit] on Windows 10

For Uloz downloads, JDownloader 2 is your friend.

If you don't have any kindle device you cant do this way, because you need serial of the kindle device, and the PC desktop version doesn't have serial number in amazon devices page.

Only solution for people without kindle device is to use apps which doesn't use serial number like Any.eBook.Converter.

Of course Kindle-for-PC-1-17-0-Build-44170 version is the must!
Be cautious there are many fake and injected versions use only safe versions.

Thanks for the info guys, I’m pretty sure that’s the version of kindle for pc that I’ve been using. I had the auto updates de-selected as well so I’m still at a loss as to why it suddenly stopped working.
I will look in to it again but I’ve got epubor ultimate which has been great so far.

Thanks again

i use k4pc (kindle for pc) version 1.17.1 (44183). i do not allow it to update. some months back somehow it updated anyway so i took the .exe version which i have stored on my pc for the version i listed, simply ran it again, it overwrote the udpate and that was that.

i should point out that calibre should not be constantly updated because Tools won't un-drm kindle if calibre has been updated. i use calibre v4.23 and Tools v6.6.3 adapted by 'tik since Alf's Tools will not remove kindle identifiers (kindle embeds in every single title you download, whether it's a free $0.00 cost title, via overdrive, or a title you paid for outright - and that identifier, if amazon is so inclined, will show who the person was that obtained it out of their system.

so
1) k4pc v1.17.1 build 44183
2) calibre v4.23
3) Tools (adapted) v6.6.3
