Hey guys, who is also a fan of all the biographies coming from metal musicians for the (mostly) last 10 years? Thanks to all our beautiful uploaders, we have the opportunity to read most of those books. There's already a small round of same people here on mobilism whom you might always notice in "Thank you" under rock/metal memoirs.
Let's chat about it a bit? What book are you looking forward to? Which ones have really impressed you?
In no particular order I'll share for myself. I've been a a fan of metal music all my life but never really interested in black metal and especially Norway side of the story. I was 14 when I bought Metal Hammer in Greek (I was on vacations there) with reviews of Enslaved's Vikingligr Vendi and Mayhem's De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Later that year I bought Enslaved's Frost on cassette and I though that it sucks haha. Then Emperor came and I also wasn't impressed. Now decades later I start exploring Norway BM pillars in chronological order and find it very joyful (the process of exploring these bands). I never finished reading "Lords of Chaos", I started it after Dayal Patterson's "The Cult Never Dies", and after Dayal's fantastic style Lords of Chaos just seems too lackluster.
The highlights for me so far are Al Jourgensen's book (it's disgusting at time but so good), Scot Ian's from Anthrax first book, both Megadeth's members first books, Bruce Dickinson and NOFX books. And of course Rex Brown's book which sparked my interest for metal memoirs. There are some let downs which are not bad books but just could be better like Max Cavalera book.
I'm really bummed I missed Paradise Lost book (it never was available as e-book) but around these days a new edition should be up for pre-order. The author is the guy who wrote Noise Records story (I really want to read that one as well) and second edition is handled by Dayal Patterson's publishing company if I'm not mistaken. The first one was published with help of Decibel Magazine.
Would love to hear your stories and opinions.
