I don't just mean "bad writing by new authors". I mean authors I've never heard of before who suddenly have four (usually, or sometimes three or five) books with bad covers and a generic-sounding plot summary.

The cover art is all similar, and they don't even have the authors' names on the covers.

I looked at one, and the writing has an absolutely enormous amount of space-filler in it -- page after page of "character stats" and "I'm rolling my character now" and "how many hit points". I get that LitRPG books sometimes do that, a little bit every few chapters as the main character tries to figure out how to do something, but not nearly as much as this one; I'm scrolling through multiple pages in my browser that are just filled with this crap.

I'm guessing that this is all one individual, or one publishing house, using an AI novel-generating program to flood tons of books onto the market. The covers, too -- it isn't even hard to generate good covers now thanks to StableDiffusion, but these aren't even up to what SD1.5 can do.

Anyone know more about this?

Yes, lots of them. Part of them even have --.- instead of just space - probably in order to increase character count and/or foil anti-plagiarism algorithm.

notalizard,

You have conjured up images of things like:

He pulled the rabbit from his gun holding pen, turned the audio dial to fill on it's amoeba and fired the blaster laser toaster bunny at the bad nasty alien.

I think I'll stay with established human authors, it's going to be a very long time before the supposed AI's can emulate writing enough to fully fool readers.
