Just a random question, to all you random people : )

We all have some favorite reads, but there are always some books which we don't like..or simply can't feel attach to them.
So what famous book you never liked? Which everyone praises about but you just can't get it... in other words over-rated books..

Mine is 'Thirteen reasons why'

Oh, I wouldn't want you to give up on reading this book because of someone's negative comment. It is all subjective and maybe you will like it. :D I personally didn't like the author's idea to explain Da Vinci's life and work based on one apocryphal legend. Also, I don't have respect for bloodlines, nor for genealogies, so, the story about the descendants of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene didn't impress me. I must confess that I didn't finish the book, just flipped through it...

Talk about spoiling the fun

The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. I feel like it is over-rated. The writing style isn't what I like. Also, The Twilight Saga. It doesn't mean that I outright hated them, I did find something good in them. Gandalf, for example, is as impressive as in the movie adaptations.

Another one is A Song of Ice and Fire series. I read some great reviews and some of my pals recommended it but it turned out to be much more trouble than it was worth. Too much characters and confusing storyline.......

Gee , Is there a conspiracy going on here to annoy me ? ;)

I don't like a lot of famous books either . I wouldn't say they are over-rated just cos I don't like it . Some think Shakespeare is crap . Some think he's a genius . Nevertheless , they are well written books as per standards of literature .It'd be just wrong to say it's over-rated .

Believe me LH, not all of us are conspiring with orcs to make your life miserable.

The novels that get made into movies become overrated. Regarding TLOTR thing, it is my opinion, obviously and I'm entitled to have one. I liked the movies alright, the books' storylines were very well-built and the characters were great but the writing style just wasn't easily digestable by the likes of me who like a bit more colorful narration.

I liked Dan Brown's style in The Da Vinci Code, but he spoiled the great suspense angle by putting in the BS about the Scion thingy, the false portrayal of Da Vinci's life (+1, siluasap) and, above all, claiming that all of his pseudohistorical babble was right.

All that being said, it should be kept in mind that I am not trying to aggravate the admirers of these works, I am merely pointing out my misgivings about the authors' style itself.

I loved The Hobbit ;) I read it like ten times, as a child. I haven't read LOTR though. A few months ago I found The Lord Of The Rings in English left by someone in our city library to take for free. So I took it. So many pages...
