I usually have up to five books going at any given time. If a particular books keeps my attention then I'll keep reading (a book has to REALLY grab my attention for me to read it in one sitting) over a few days until it's finished. I'm waiting for the new Mike Resnick and Jack Mcdevitt book, The Cassandra Project, to show up in my mail box then I will read it in one go.

A book has to be really good for it to be the only book that I'm reading at the time.
But usually, I'm reading about 3 books at any given time. These are books in which I get bored at some point and switch to another book. Then I go back when I feel like reading it again.

I prefer one book at a time, however if I'm reading a book from home and have a book out from the library, the library one obviously has to take precedence. Then I can continue on with the other one. But if that's a physical book (library) and the other is an ebook, it depends on the time and place as to which I will be reading at a particular time. So I can often have two books on the go. Much more than that and I wouldn't be able to keep up.

My usual is about 3 books at a time. If I get on a "run", I'll keep on a series until I finish it, regardless of the # of books. I think the longest run I've had recently was the Game of Thrones...the 5 books of that series run in excess of 5000 pages, and I finished it up early this year. Right now, I'm reading Monument 14 [#1], Embrace the Grim Reaper, and The Silk Train Murders.

I've never been a big reader outside of school/university material. Got my first ebook reader about 1.5 years ago, and am slowly reading more and more. I do one book at a time because I mostly read biographies of successful businessmen, or books on economic development. For these types of books, keeping track of timelines and small details is very important, so I do one book at a time.

One book at a time and I just lose myself in reading. I'll get little to no sleep if I am reading a book that is really good. I've gone days without sleep while reading some Stephen King novels.
Its like I lay down to go to bed, start reading, and before I know it it's actually time to get up again. I tell myself I will go to bed properly the next night, and end up doing the same thing over again until the book is finished. :p

I mostly read novels and will sometimes put my book on hold, if it's not very interesting at a given point, and read an entirely different book or sometimes several before picking the original one up again. Then I usually have something light, like a biography or something, on my iPhone for reading while waiting in line somewhere.

I tend to have multiple books going. A book in the bedroom, one in the bathroom and one that's in my backpack for when I'm waiting at the doctors offices.
I live way out in the country by myself (well, there's a cat) no real neighbors, no friends nearby, my family has all passed away. I'm disabled so I spend a LOT of time reading, I'm currently reading the Merry Gentry series by Laurell Hamilton and I'm average a book and a half a day (her books average 340 pages according to my e reader.) I have to read series in order, and I have to read the entire series. When a new book comes out I'm the crazy person who digs out all the previous books and re reads them. Robert Jordans Wheel of Time has taken what little sanity I have left

I usually read one book at a time, but if a book I have been waiting to be released comes out I tend to out what I'm reading on hold to start that one. It's kind of depends though because if the book isn't holding my attention I might put it on hold for a bit and start another one only to come back to the original later.
