It's not necessarily a bad thing for the end user - putting aside issues of conglomeration.
Amazon acquired zappos.com and did nothing to alter the company and the end user would have no idea that it was not the original zappos.
I would suspect that the only thing that would change for the foreseeable future would be links to amazon to purchase books. I haven't noticed any difference in terms of the kinds of emails that I am receiving although theoretically they could use data from goodreads.com to track me preferences but they are already tracked on amazon to a large extent based on purchases as well as items that I have explored.
I think this is much more benign than the kind of uses that facebook makes from data of its users - your likes and posts can be used as advertisements on Facebook.

I didn't even know that Amazon bought GoodReads until I saw this thread.
Like Jujulabee, if they have made any changes at GoodReads I haven't noticed.

They've introduced new rules in regards to reviews. Several reviews were deleted due to them referencing the Author and talking about their personal beliefs. It's apparent the site is becoming more author orientated than reader. Probably in the pursuit to sell more books.

Probably tangential but I don't have issues with reviews being deleted that are based on the author's behavior rather than the content of the book because I think morally ambiguous people can be great artists and behavior unrelated to the *art* should be irrelevant in literary criticism (or any criticism of film, art etc.).
Of course an author's background can have impact on the book but my understanding is that deletions were done when the sole basis of the criticism was that the author was ______ fill in the blank.
I find those kinds of reviews on amazon to be equally unhelpful although there they tend to fall into the category of people criticizing the price of the book.
