How do the economics of this wonderful community work, I wonder? And how do some other members make their living?

For me, my main source of income is contests like Daily posting guess (and I really like Daily Dices game but the other competitors are way faster than me - just how do they know so quickly when it's time to play?!) and Thank You's for my eBook posts. I have no compunction about offering 100 WRZ$ or sometimes even 300 WRZ$ for my eBook requests because they're worth it to me, and I then post them back up (except on those annoying but irremediable instances when someone beats me to it - but that's a subject for a whole other post). And sometimes I'll trawl through the list of Expired eBook Releases to see if there are any that I own, and post them. Finally, I've been known to fulfill some eBook Requests.

As such, my WRZ$ balance always hovers around the 1,000 mark. If I have more, I'll spend more. If I have less, I'll do some "work" to get it back up. But I see other members with tens of thousands, nay, hundreds of thousands. Just what are they hoarding this virtual money for?

So how do you make your WRZ$? How do you spend? Any advice about the best way to live, financially on mobilism?

I guess the easiest way to earn WRZ$ is to spend real money. I tried the forum games for a while too, but it was too much for my patience. So I gave up. I'm not very interested in WRZ$ anyway.

If you can, buy the books you like.

Or writers will become an extinct species.

1. For fun. And to beat mehr ;)
2. Almost all from contests, although some from ebook "thank yous". The more time you put into it, the more you'll earn. Yes, some contests pay more, but I think time commitment is the main factor. If you don't enjoy it, it's not worth it. :)
3. On ebooks, but far less than my income, even though I usually offer between 50 and 500 WRZ$ a book.
4. Personal preference, I think.

Playing contests is my only source of WRZ$.

Spend? Honestly, there's not too much here to spend WRZ$ on so I rarely spend it.

I bought VIP status & I've bought up my PM storage space several times.
That's about it. I rarely make requests.

Thank you Joycee and melanthiabast for your input!

Thank you avoran, not only for your answers, but your parsing of my questions into something much more comprehensible!

So, to quote:

1. Not really a hoarder, I also give away an awful lot for good turns, favours and because I want to. And I actively encourage and help others to win contests.
2. The majority of my WRZ$ comes from contests - though I'd be the first to admit I spend far too much time playing them.
3. Very little to spend it on. I used WRZ$ to increase my pm limits and on the rare occasion I request a book it's nice to be able to offer far more than the average (last two books I requested I paid 1000 WRZ$ each for)
4. Not sure if there's an answer for that other than personal preference as to how much you think you need

Wow, 1000 WRZ$! I'm really curious about which books...!

But my real burning question is this: what's your secret to getting onto the board so quick on the Dices game?!

:)

You mean you noticed?

No secret....mice are just really quick! ;)

Re the 1000 WRZ$ for a book request....as I said it's rare I make a request but it means people look real hard to find it!

A related question for any of you... Which games do you find are the most lucrative?

My income here was mainly due to the kindness of a member, that just because i said thanks to him ,gave me 100 wrz`s :)

I have no idea what people spend WRZ$ on, or I would spend them. I have all the books I want, if I want more I can get them fairly cheaply or free, and those I can't find on the internet, I put in as a request and eventually get them. I can't imagine what I will spend all these WRZ$ on, so I would like to give them away to people who want them. In fact, I am going to donate some now to people on this thread who need/want/some, including you decay1973 as you fulfilled several requests for me when I first came here. I was WRZ$ poor then, but I definitely am not now :)

I feel like I do nothing to earn them, just post a few releases per month and write a few reviews a month - that's it!!!

I play Rush Hour now and again to earn WRZ$ - the rest has come from posting releases and the filling the odd request. I have enough to fund my occasional requests and that's really my only driver for having accumulated them.

Just got back from a family trip to find that mstigerlily donated me some WRZ$ - such a kind and unexpected gesture... Yes, even with a few thousand, I too feel that I have more WRZ$ than I need, and now I'm going to request some quality books and happily overpay for them...!

I got most from contests, except for some I bought in the beginning so I could post requests. I use the funds for rewards. If I had more, I'd just give more as rewards.
