You can put all mobi or azw files that you got from here and put them in your kindle. My sister only reads mobi files because she prefers the kindle reader to other devices..if in epub format you can use calibre to convert the files to mobi, and then move those files to your kindle device.
Those files don t go to your amazon account or cloud. Even if you have your kindle internet connection on, the most that can happen is to receive recommendations based on the books you have there.

There was a case a year or two ago where Amazon deleted a book from every ones Device and refunded them. Animal Farm I think it was. Amazon didn't have the rights to sell it or something daft.

There was also a story that Amazon was closing the accounts of people who had large numbers of books that didn't come from Amazon as an anti-piracy measure. How true that is or whether it was just urban legend I don't know.

Whats the point of deleting books that didn t come from Amazon?? they can not do that..there are lots of books that are drm free and even if they could delete them i have back up`s of all books in my kindle device hehe.
They know that limiting the kindle to files coming only from Amazon would be a non profit action to amazon. I still buy from amazon some books, specially those from some authors i like very much or those who i think i should support.
There is not any law that forbids me using the kindle reader (or app) to read files from other sources.

Whether it's a myth they have deleted accounts I don't know. If they did it likely wouldn't affect anything that did not come from Amazon. But if your account is deleted how do you get anything you have bought from Amazon? But given the way it has turned out that Adobe was uploading Data on what you were reading. I wouldn't put it past Amazon to do same. Here's a link anyway

This shows the very worst of DRM. If the retailer, in this case Amazon, thinks you're a crook, they will throw you out and take away everything that you bought. And if you disagree, you're totally outlawed. With DRM, you don't buy and own books, you merely rent them for as long as the retailer finds it convenient.

You pays your money and you take your choice. Can you turn of the Sync feature on the Kindle like you can with a Kobo?

Our family has 5 or 6 registered Kindles and I have had a Kindle for...5 years at least? Not the same one, of course, they have replaced dropped and cracked ones at least 4 times for me for free, and at least one more time I was given a 50% discount. I am an Amazon Prime member and have been for years. I love amazon.com - their customer service is unparalled.

When I have returned cracked Kindles I sent them back, pirated books and all, and I got nary a comment. I tend to keep about 40 books at a time on my Kindle to select from when I want something to read, in my archive I have over 150 that I have purchased legit from Amazon.com. So maybe Amazon doesn't care because I am a good customer? Or maybe they don't really care much about people having pirated books? Either way, I've not had any trouble.

If you are worried about it I suppose you can "deregister" the Kindle and keep it offline all the time. I tend to keep mine offline most of the time unless I am making a purchase because the battery lasts longer that way. You can also only put a few books at a time on the Kindle and delete them when done reading. Either way, I wouldn't worry too much. Now, if you are reading on an iPAD, then I would worry a lot more about Apple peering into my stuff. Apple does not like anyone getting apps or merchandise for free - ever, they charge for everything!

Hmm… I'm curious where you got that impression.

I've an iPad2 and an iPad Mini2. These are the only devices I use for reading ebooks, which I do 3 to 5 hours every evening. I read ebooks exclusively … no more print for me!

By now, I've loaded and read on my Apple devices hundreds of ePUBs - likely approaching a thousand of them and have had no problem whatsoever doing that.

Because (and I get most of this Apple dislike from my husband) - as I understand, all the decent Apple apps always cost $$$, in fact, everything Apple costs big $$$, iPADs, iPHONES, i - whatever they are selling these days, upgrades, new stuff, their devices are locked and not upgradeable or able to be opened at all, it voids the warranty.

Whereas lots of Kindle apps are free and they constantly offer the ones that aren't for free periodically. Plus as I said Amazon.com has replaced at least 5 or 6 Kindles and Kindle Fires for me free of charge or heavily discounted and because I did things like drop them or get them wet. I doubt that Apple would be so kind! Apple seems to be all about the $$$.

Now, our household does possess ONE Apple product - we do have the original iPAD 1 which we got free, it still works great and it is user friendly but my husband hates all things Apple so we have never purchased anything by them and never well. It's all Microsoft, Android, Samsung and PC stuff over here. He thinks all Apple products are overpriced devices for boneheads and that Apple should go bankrupt as soon as possible, so I guess he has unfairly infected me with his Apple hate.
