Hey... Just checked out and they finished TR3.5 beta (or TR4-beta). I think that there will be an update to the actual Wikipedia file (from the last one from december 2005). From what I understood, the script by Erik Zachte could no longer compile the english wiki dumps but maybe.. maybe that has changed? Does anyone know anything about this?

BTW The current Wiki (december 2005) w/o images is 1.1GB and 900,000 articles... So my guess if a new wiki file is out, with 50% increase in the articles, like 1,350,000 articles, and probably more text in alot of the already existing ones, my guess it should be anywhere from 1.5GB-2.5GB in size (again, with no images!), right?

If so, it is great, considering the sharp decline in the prices of memory cards. If there will be such file, a new 2007 offline-wikipedia file, I am definetly moving to a 4GB card in my hp4150 (hope it's gonna be readable by the device).

This offline wikipedia file is the thing I probably use more than anything in my PPC device.

---EDIT---

Sorry, I haven't noticed it at first but now I saw that there is such file but it isn't the full wikipedia but rather a concise version of it. It contains all 1.3 Million entries but only the first paragraph of each article. Appearently it's 226 MBs. BTW as of writing this post, english wikipedia is 1,663,140 articles)

I see October '06 files here:
Code: Select allhttp://download.wikimedia.org/tomeraider/

which may or may not be more up to date than the ones you mentioned.

Erik's site
Code: Select allhttp://infodisiac.com/Wikipedia/DownloadFiles.html
has preformatted files from Dec '05 (including a version to fit on a 1gig card) as well as instructions on how to do it yourself.

A script to process the current XML format can be found at
Code: Select allhttp://infodisiac.com/Wikipedia/ProcedureTR3.html

You can also buy the Wiki setup complete with images from there.

The new tomeraider 3GB+ wikitome is worth the download although why the file wasn't zipped remains a mystery since it was the tomeraider team themselves that uploaded the file to mininova. No pictures in this one but all the articles from the english version are there unabridged. There are no references in this file only the complete article itself and the links to relevent websites at the bottom. Tomeraider is fast enough on my Dell Axim X51v but it isnt as fast as I would like so maybe on devices with slower processes you can expect some lag with a file of this size. Being a database junkie this is the most extreme one on my device and turns my pocket pc into somewhat of an oracle. Its 2008 and over the last year we have seen flash memory prices falling sharply, the good people at tomeraider making the entire wikipedia archive available is awe inspiring, we are now pushing the limits of information everywhere and expanding our abilities to never lose an argument again.

I hope this helps saksham! Get a card and download it already. :D Did I mention that the links in the articles are hyperlinks!? This is very useful.
