I was wondering whether anyone here can help me locate the right software for me.
My contacts are all organized by categories (personal, business, work, family, etc.). I have MANY contacts.

I find it annoying that every time I want to dial someone or look someone up in my contacts - it takes me a long time browsing through my long list of contacts.
Contacts does have a "filter by" option - which I think choose and can select "by category" and it makes it easier - but once I go out of that contact - it goes back to default - the long list.

I'm looking for a Contacts-replacement software - that can help me manage better my contacts by categories. Also - it would be nice if, when I come back to it, it remains on the last viewed contact and not back to the long list again.

Most contacts-software-packages I've seen only had features for easier lookup of contacts names - but not separate them by categories.

check out photo contacts 5.02. it replaces the existing contacts list, you can sort your contacts by category and it remains on the last viewed contact, when you return to the program.
