i understand this site is affiliated with rapidshare (n possibly megaupload), but these sites give some users problems.

May I suggest that additional mirrors given include sendspace, zshare, gigashare, bigupload, etc? The mods (lifehacker!!) could probably compile a list of download proxies with acceptable speeds.

We're certainly not affiliated in any way to rapidshare. Its just that rapidshare is a very popular filehost in general and here due to the fact that we provide access to premium accounts for our VIPs. I can't force users to make mirrors to a givern number/specific filehosting sites but it is encouraged here to make mirrors to different sites. About a proxy list, that would be a rather difficult list to compile since it would have to be constantly updated.
