I recently got this email from JETCET's tech support

"Thank you for contacting Westtek Support. It is our pleasure to assist you.
Unfortunately, the current version of JETCET PRINT does not support USB printing."

Very frustrating, as none of the other output options are of any use to me.
Could anyone tell me please if there is a USB print utility for WM5 that would work on a Loox 560

Thanks

Does your device have USB host capability? (can you plug a printer on it?)

Yes. Although the USB host on the Loox N560 has a reputation for being a bit odd, it will run a variety of devices. I regularly use a mouse and keyboard on it connected through a hub. Some people have successfuly connected it to USB hard drives, and I know it does work with data sticks. However, some things you might have expected to work as storage devices like an mp3 player, phone and a digital camera don't work - it just doesn't 'see' them.

I was puzzled by the absence of a USB option with JETCET as most people don't have the other options. Anyhow, Ive been trying to find something that might work, though with not much success so far - no one at FirstLoox.org seems to have any ideas.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It's hard to find information about this on the net. Supposedly windows mobile does support printing with any PCL-compatible printer (that being the basic "language" many printers understand, if I understood correctly), via a driver "usbprn.dll", but the problem is that most applications don't offer the _option_ to print. It's hard to help because I don't have usb host funcionality myself, but I would recommend that you try many different printing programs first, to see if any of them provides USB support. I have heard of "hp mobile printing", "PrintPocketPC", "pieprint", "pocketpixprint", "pocketclipprint" and "printboy". Perhaps one of them offers the option, but you might have to try each one... Also I don't know if USB printers connected to a pocketpc will show as "usb printer"; maybe they will show as connected to "lpt1" (parallel port) because of some sort of emulation.
Another choice may be visiting the drivers page for usb printers especially made for the pocket pc. I know they exist; for example canon has the USB BJC-85 printer. Anyway, this doesn't look to be an easy task.
Good luck; if you (or anyone else from the forum) manage to find the solution, it would be nice to know; probably many people have the same problem.

Thank you wasol for your suggestions.

I visited each one and this is what I found

PrintPocketPC is not compatible with Windows Mobile 5
PrintBoy only prints Word, Excel and Outlook files and can't even do text files
PocketClipPrint looked realy good but only connects with Ir or serial, no USB
pocketpixprint same as PocketClipPrint for images with same limitations
pieprint prints Web pages and has bluetooth - but no USB
finally I emailed HP about their mobile printing which does everything for Win Mobile 2002 & 2003 except USB, but their reply informed me that there was no printing support for WM5 or USB

It seems I may be forced to use an InfraRed adapter, although this isn't as 'wireless' as it seems, as the adapter need a separate power supply.

Thanks again for your help wasol, some of them were new to me, if I do ever find something I'll be sure to post it.
