Discuss Pocket PC software here.

Hi.

Today I tried to convert a movie for my PPC and I faced the following questions:

- Which is the best software to convert the movies? Which program you use for converting the movies in appropriate for PPC format?
- Which is the appropriate PPC format for the movies - for the video & audio?

Thanks in advance!!

you may find these video converters handy:

Spb Mobile DVD v1.2.0: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=22127 (recommended)
Aplus video TO Pocket PC Converter v8.28: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=30012 (recommended)
Aplus DVD To Pocket PC Ripper v8.0: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=30010
Total Video Converter v3.1: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=28210
Aimersoft Pocket PC Converter Suite v1.0.24: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=29813
DivX Create Bundle v6.4: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=4618
Allok Video to MP4 Converter 2.3.2: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=4907
Altdo Video Converter Diamond v1.4: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=27929
Acala DVD to Pocket PC Movie v2.7.7: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=29175

and as could be expected, DivX is the best and most compressed format. however, you may also want to use WMV too.

I'm using:
Pocket DivX Encoder 0.3.96: viewtopic.php?f=57&t=27554
Cause it's very easy to use and does the job well (no complaints so far).
Choose wisely.

Full movies (1h:30m/2h:30m) in 240x320 resolution should be around 250/400 Mb for good quality.

Thanks guys for the advices.

Now I face the following problem: how to resize a movie, which original dimensions are 640x272. Should I keep the original aspect ratio and converted it to 320X136?

Thanks in advance.

yes, keep the original aspect ratio at all times to avoid distortion.

DVD Catalyst 2.0 is the cake for me mayne. I used to use Pocket DVD Studio (PQDVD) which was great if you wanted ultimate control over all minute encoding details but Catalyst won me over with it's 100% success rate and batch encoding. Oh, and Catalyst is blazing quick, especially on 1x encoding. PQDVD would screw up once awhile. Do not upgrade Catalyst past 2.0 (don't know if 3 is out yet) cuz later versions removed the option to crop the movie length.

I use virtual dub. Its probably the most advanced encoder. But if you havent got experince in doing it before. tI can get a bit confusing. Expessionly getting the right file size. I haven't tryed the other encoders made Expessionly for encoding for ppc's (i've been meaning to0). But im sure they will do the same thing

I've tryed in virtualdub to convert to that Res 320x136. Im using xvid but it won't allow me to use a 136 height. I thought it was because you can only use a multiple of 6 or something like that. I just raised it to 140. It seems to run then.
