It is definitely possible, I once played Orions SE against a friend over wifi (without accesspoint). The only real problem is that both devices operate on batterypower, they will only connect when necessary, so the connection will be bad. This can be solved using an accesspoint.

PDA #1
Turn off Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi Settings
Network Cards
WLan Wireless Adapter (connects me to "Work")
Edit
Use Specific IP-Address
IP 10.0.0.1
Subnetmask 255.0.0.0

PDA #2
Same settings, only IP is: 10.0.0.2

Now turn on Wi-Fi on both devices and they'll be able to connect to each other.

Note: This is a way to connect two PDA's over Wi-Fi; I don't know what software to use for filetransfer (Resco FTP?). Maybe you should write down your current Wi-Fi settings before getting started.

just for inf.. for RescoFTP (or whatever other ftp client software) you need network ftp server and access to network ..
you cannot use ftp protocol for simple file sharing or data transfer between two clients

You will need access to network and access to running ftp server

sorry :( i don't have experience setting up personal network within handhelds only, but have seen the options, settings available in my wm5..
i suggest to look,search help on ' personal network ' and 'ad-hoc'

------
BTW if you have correctly setup your wireless (lan) network and already have ftp server running, then Resco Explorer and its ftp add-on is just great solution!

also even more you can do with this amaizing Resco Explorer tool :)... (ok! if you can take the security risks) and use for example windows simple filesharing, you can map to your WM5..(6?) device ... all available 'network shares (Shared folders and disks) in your local network !
tested with Asus P535 wm5 device

Good Evening,

First of all i want to thank you all.

The real problem is when i am trying to transfer files between two pda's through wi-fi because i don't have an accses point,
when i am home i connect my pda to my wi-fi ntwork(desktop plus laptop) and gain access mapping my shared folders through Resco ftp
