If you have 2 "1 penny" coins, can you change into "4 half penny" coins? No, if you had 2 "2 pennys", you could change into 4 "1 penny" coins.
With Screen Resolution is the same: You can't draw a 4 pixels picture into a 2 pictures screen resolution, but you can draw a 4 pixels picture into a 4 pixels screen resolution or a 2 pixels double sized pixels into a 4 pixels resolution.
If you have 320x240 screen, only 320x240 resolution can display, but if you have 640x480 screen resolution you can display a full screen 640x480 pixels resolution (letters and icons smaller but good quality) or a full screen 320x240 "double sized" resolutions (letters and icons bigger and poor quality)
You can set a dot inside a square, but not a square inside a dot (1 dot represents 1 pixel and 1 square a gruop of pixels), if so, you will only see a small portion of the real square.
I hope that you understand it...

Techinically your right McFly_24 but that is not the case with all PPC
Some PPC screens are the by default 320x240 but the hardware supports 640x480 so you can forse it to run at the higher resolution
Rata, try the below
viewtopic.php?t=3513
I use it on my iaq rw6828 (320x240 native) and it allows me to use higher resoultions, writeing becomes very small, and at times hard to read, bu usually you can change thoses settings in individual apps to a larger font and overall you still get a bigger screen.
