HEllo,

I download webtv setup.cab and after runing, i had error message: webtv.cab is not a valid windows ce.
I need this file for my ppc ?
I like to know if someone can download it with WM2003SE. If not do you know another software???
and you need to delete 2003(SE) from: Requirements: PocketPC 2003(SE), WM5, WM6 - Internet Connection, CorePlayer, Windows MediaPlayer or TCPMP in this http://forum.ppcwarez.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=64810&hilit=webtv

Thank you.

Same issue here. Apparently the CAB was built for WM5 and higher, and is compressed.
The modified WM2003 installation is gone.
So far I haven't figured out how to extract the content into a readable WM 2003SE format.
For now you can try a similar, less pretty, but working internet app like Kai's Internet TV.
It DOES work on WM2003SE and can be updated with any personal TV channels.

To answer my own question and offer a WORKING .CAB file of WebTV v3.71 for all PDA users with older WM versions:

Here is a non-expiring link to an uncompressed and unsigned CAB of this neat little free application. It should install on your older PDA just fine. Included is an additional set of extra TV channels I found elsewhere.
Enjoy!

For those who care to know about the conversion process of WM5 CABs to older WMx versions (selftaught):
- extract the original compressed and signed CAB into a folder of choice on your desktop, eg C:\MyCabs
- create a text file with the extension .DDF file manually in the same folder, eg C:\MyCabs\MyCAB.DDF; it should start:

.OPTION EXPLICIT
.Set CabinetNameTemplate=MyCAB.CAB
.Set Cabinet=on
.Set Compress=off

followed by a list of all files in that folder, eg:
WEBTVS~1.000
WE75E2~1.075

and so on. Last line should be the last of all files, nothing else.

- now use MAKECAB.EXE (part of Windows, hunt it down) and build the new CAB by calling it from a command prompt:
MAKECAB /f C:\MyCabs\MyCAB.DDF
- it will create the new MyCAB.CAB file in a subfolder called C:\MyCabs\Disk1, under the original DDF and other files
- now transfer the new CAB file to your PDA and treat it as usual, it should open without the nagging ".. not a valid Windows CE application ..." ("...keine gültige Datei für Windows CE") crap.

Obviously only working for code that is written for all WM platforms, but is sadly only published in the newer CAB format. TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK!

More info about WebTV can be found at the developer's site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=491288

My first real post, hopefully of some use to someone...

What exactly is happening (or not) when clicking the Webtv icon ? Error messages? Does it run in the background invisibly?

Did you soft reset after installation, just as a precaution?

Can you see all installed subfolders (2) and files (3) in the \Webtv folder wherever you installed it?

What hardware and WinCE version are you using?

As said I got it working on my Typhoon 6500XL just fine, but many of the 1000 channels are dead these days. Still lots left to watch!

So the program starts and shuts down immediately? Not in the list of running programs when you look under the memory/application tab?
Have you tried de-/reinstalling it?
Other programs running at the same time that could be in the way? Can you start it right after reboot/reset?

I am fairly new to PDAs and do not know their internals too well so far, they ARE quite different than other Windows OS.
A good idea would be to contact the developers of WebTV directly, see my link in an earlier reply. They may know the possible cause of your problem.

Good luck!

Maybe not the best replacement but have you tried "Kai's Internet TV"?
Alternative is a similar PODCAST player version (not too bad actually).
Link to topic about both as well as fileshares under
viewtopic.php?f=65&t=83176&hilit=kai%27s+internet

Both definitely work on WinCE 4.2 machines; they don't offer a large list of channels though, but can be upgraded manually any time.
I use all in parallel on my W2k3SE so far, each has its advantages.

Good luck!

Thanks about your help.
I download new software W.V.D to play and download streaming videos directly from your ppc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427702

After download, i have the same error, i click but nothing run.
But W.V.D software Require: .Net Compact Framework. I download .Net Framework 2.0 and i can run the program correctly.

The same, i download another time WebTV, and now i can run this program also.
We need to have this .Net Framework  !!!!!!

I have another question for you:
1- Can you play some streaming video like www.megavideo.com ??? for me NO, because i need Flash Player 10.0 and i have only 7.0 ???
2- Do you know other websites to like megavideo to play streaming movie on ppc with WM2003SE???

Thank you.

I should have thought of the .NET issue. Sort of assumed that you had it already, as many apps need this framework to operate.

No luck with the Megavideo site, just Adobe nags about the need to get the latest Flash player.
While I have no trouble with any local multimedia file formats, or MMS streams and Youtube videos, I cannot get this stupid Flash thing to work. Sadly it is part of most trailer and video sites these days.
I installed various versions of Flash players,, all seem not to integrate into my browsers (IE mobile 4.21, Opera 8.65)?
