Is there a program that I can use to send a file from one Pocket PC to another over Wifi. I thought FTP would be the best way. It works, but it's not the best way.

I need a way to send files, it doesn't have to be FTP as long as I can send files between my PDAs (I'll save FTP for computer to Pocket PC)

Instant messengers - at least Skype would work:

Skype requires an internet connection to work, however.
Windows Live Messenger can share pictures only, and requires an internet connection as well.

I need something that does not use an internet connection, I can send files over Wifi but I need both PDA to be connected to and access point.

When I try to setup an Ad Hoc* connection the PDAs get IPs in different ranges, 169.254.39.117 and 169.254.40.187 and Mocha FTP Server does not work...

* How do you spell it, is it Ad Hoc or Ad-Hoc?

Ad Hoc=8millions or Ad-Hoc=1millions (says google)

Actually you're looking for an ah hoc network ip address autoconfiguration - that doesn't exist.

You must configure the ip addresses manually (at least on one device), either registry tweaking or using a tool:

Why doesn't it use the same IP range by default, isn't that the whole point of AdHoc, to communicate between two devices, and for that to happen you need IPs in the same range.

No.

Well, TCP/IP is a protocol, like any other protocol than can be used over ethernet or over wifi.
Ethernet or wifi is only the link to transfer any protocol on top of it.
TCP/IP is not related to wifi ad hoc networks.
Read a little about the ISO/OSI model, for a better understanding and correct specification. According to that view it would be wrong to include a specification for TCP/IP autoconfiguration in the wifi ad hoc network standard.
Layered thinking helps missing the reality. Apple would have had something like AppleTalk for Wireless, i.e. something that works, no need for the user to do anything. Or like Nintendos Gameboy link cable. Developed with the end user in mind.

However TCP/IP: Without manual configuration of ip addresses or an DHCP server you just can't do anything. True for ethernet, true for wifi. It's developed from engineers for engineers with engineers in mind. Not for end users. Most users cannot understand it at all, internet works by searching google and don't ask them what "tee-see-pip" means.

I have learned about the OSI model. Isn't AdHoc a Zero Conf thing?

How can AdHoc give you incorrect settings when you can't even change them. They should've made it where you pick one device to act as DHCP server and the other device receives the correct IP from it. Like in some games one person creates a room and other join.
