Overview: Colin Mackay is raised in a proud and honorable southern family by his mother and grandmother, his father having never returned from Europe where he was a B-17 pilot flying missions over Germany. As a young man, answers his country’s call to action and becomes a fighter pilot in the Air Force. Flying a low level bombing mission over North Vietnam, his F4 fighter is shot down. He is captured by the Viet Cong and interned in a POW camp. He manages to escape and elude his captors. During his heroic 300 mile trek back to South Vietnam, he is horrified by the suffering and death of innocent non-combatants and the horrendous widespread destruction he encounters along the way.

Tormented by recurring visions of the horrors he’s seen, Colin begins to go on quixotic missions to rid the world of its widespread and pervasive injustice. The missions inevitably fail and he is unable to cope with both the world’s collective guilt and his failure help its most vulnerable victims. With his world about to collapse, he meets Annie who ushers him into the beautiful, peaceful world she knows and helps him find his way back to a sane existence.

Colin builds a highly successful company that in a few years enables him to amass a huge personal fortune. When Annie dies tragically, Colin’s demons return and he resumes the kind of missions he was undertaking before he met her. During one of these in Darfur, he has an epiphany which causes him to cease his missions and he pledges his life and fortune to finding a better and more peaceful way forward for mankind.
